SENIOR (2017): McCain saw action in four games this season as a defensive midfielder. The senior entered the game against Stetson on Feb. 19, scoring her first goal of the season and second goal of her career. McCain took three shots with two on goal and she added two groundballs and one caused turnover in the 22-3 win for the Buffaloes. McCain played in the games against Winthrop, Stanford, and Saint Mary’s – all wins. She had one draw control against Saint Mary’s on March 21, finishing her season with one goal, one draw control and one caused turnover.
 
JUNIOR (2016): McCain played in four games as a reserve defender. She had one assist and one caused turnover. Both her assist and caused turnover came in a 23-0 win over Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on April 15. She also saw action against Central Connecticut, Marist and California—all wins.
 
SOPHOMORE (2015): In her second year as a Buff, McCain played in 15 games and started in eight. She earned one assist, seven ground balls, and three draw controls in her time on the field. The midfielder helped the Buffs to a 13-5 victory over Marquette with an assist, and overall the team came out 11-7 for the season. She collected a season-high three ground balls and caused two turnovers in a 21-5 win over Saint Mary's (Calif.) on April 17.
 
FRESHMAN (2014): McCain was an important substitute in the midfield, seeing minutes in 18 games (including both MPSF Tournament games) and making six starts. McCain took her first shot on goal in her first collegiate game at Jacksonville. She had a strong end to the month of March, picking up two ground balls in back-to-back games. In CU’s first MPSF home game, McCain made the most of her fourth start. In addition to her two ground balls, she caused a turnover and scored her first goal, netting the final goal in the Buffs’ 19-5 victory over St. Mary’s.

HIGH SCHOOL: McCain excelled in two sports at New Trier. She captained both New Trier’s lacrosse and ice hockey teams as a senior. McCain earned back-to-back All-Conference and All-State honors in her final two seasons of lacrosse. In 2012, the team won the Central Suburban League Championship and earned a spot in the state championship game. That year, McCain was named to the Under Armour All-America Midwest and Chicago Metro National teams. McCain also played for the True Lacrosse club from 2011-12. She was a four-year letter-winner in hockey, helping New Trier to a state championship in 2012. 

IN THE CLASSROOM: McCain majors in communication.

PERSONAL: Claire McCain was born April 19, 1995. Her parents, Dan and Laura, work in real estate and were both collegiate athletes at Fordham University. Her father played football, and her mother competed in track. McCain enjoys playing tennis and basketball, skiing and water skiing. She enjoys Indian food and the Chicago Blackhawks. Her favorite movies are Bridesmaids and Miracle. She has made honor roll all four years of high school and joined the National Spanish Honor Society her junior year. She chose CU for the beautiful campus and for the excitement of being a part of a new program.
