Drew Long enters his fourth year with the University of Colorado men's basketball staff bringing a wealth of expertise in a variety of responsibilities with the Buffaloes basketball program. Last season, Long was one of three assistant coaches under-then head coach Jeff Bzdelik, responsible for game-day scouting and recruiting. Prior to becoming an assistant coach, Long was CU's coordinator of men's basketball operations.
Entering the 2010-11 season, Long, 29, returns as video coordinator on the Tad Boyle staff, a position he held during his previous two years with the Buffaloes, in addition to being a volunteer assistant coach.
Long is a 2004 graduate from Northwestern University with a bachelor of arts degree in communication and earned two letters with the Wildcats' basketball team under head coach Bill Carmody. A native of Houston, Texas, Long returned home shortly after graduation to serve as the Director of Operations for the Houston Swoosh AAU organization. He also coached a variety of youth basketball teams and instructed clinics all across the state of Texas. Prior to CU, Long was the assistant coach at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas from 2006-07. As the sole assistant, he was in charge of numerous duties including recruiting, on-court workouts, game preparation and video editing.
Born in Houston, Texas, Long graduated from Stratford High School in 2000, where he lettered in basketball.
He is married to the former Melissa Schau and the couple has a daughter, Alice Kathleen, born in March 2009. Schau was the CU men's basketball athletic trainer during the 2007-08 season.
