Will Smith was the Director of Basketball Operations for three seasons from 2004-07. He was responsible for the Buffs’ travel and practice plans, film exchange program, game-by-game scouting, academics and coordinating the Ricardo Patton Basketball Camps.

For those who have seen Smith before, you have in a CU basketball uniform from 1996-2000. Smith played on one NCAA Tournament team (1996-97) and a pair of NIT teams (1998-99, 1999-2000) under current head coach Ricardo Patton. Smith is the first former player to be part of the Patton program and the first player ever signed under Patton.

Smith scored 739 points during his four-year career and shares the CU all-time record for most games played in a career (123), and is also one of two players in school history to have played over 100 games without fouling out in a single game.

Prior to coming to Boulder, Smith arrived from Atlanta, Ga., after spending a year with Philips Medical System as a database-website assistant administrator. Prior to Atlanta, he was an instructor/facilitator at Brighton High School in Brighton, Tenn. Smith also played professional basketball during the 2001-02 season as a member of the Colima Tuberos in the LNBP League in Colima, Mexico. During that time in Mexico, Smith was a tutor as a conversation English teacher at the University of Colima.

Born Dec. 13, 1978 in Memphis, Tenn., Smith lettered four times in basketball at Hamilton High School. He was a standout prep player earning national ranking of top 100 in the country, all-state ranking #2 in Tennessee and 1996 district MVP honors. Smith also was awarded the 1996 Coca-Cola Winter Sports Player of the Year. While at CU, he earned his bachelor of arts and sciences degree in sociology.

Smith is married to the former Crystal Blanchard. He has a son, Caleb (8).
