2014-15 (senior): Played in five games, all at home (Drexel, Auburn, USC, Washington State, and Arizona State).
2013-14 (redshirt-junior): Practice player with the Buffaloes.
2012-13 (junior): Injured and did not play after having hip surgery • Practice player with the Buffaloes • Transferred from USC where he spent the 2011-12 academic year.
2010-11: Led Collin College in offensive rebounds on the 12th ranked team in the NJCAA • Played in all 31 games that season.
Plano West HS: Lettered two years in basketball • Member of top five 5A ranked team in Texas and ranked 37th nationally as a senior (team went 33-9) • Led in offensive rebounds and helped his team to district championships his sophomore, junior and senior years.
Academics: Graduated in May 2015 with a degree in political science.
Personal: Born March 20, 1990 in Whittier, Calif. • Son of Daniel Gates and Yvette Bates • Oldest of three children • Aspired to be a lawyer after college • Two uncles played college quarterback: Chris Willis at Connecticut and Jeff Willis at San Diego State.
