2019-20 (Redshirt Freshman): Appeared in four games, totaling just under six minutes. Scored his only collegiate points on a 3-pointer in the final minute against Iona (12/29). His 3-pointer gave the Buffaloes 17 for the game, which tied the single-game team record. Added three rebounds, two assists and a steal spread out among his four appearances. Made his collegiate debut in the final seconds of the home opener against San Diego (11/16). Following the season he entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.
2018-19 (Freshman): Sat out the 2018-19 season as a redshirt in the Colorado program, fully participating in team activities and practices.
High School: A 2018 graduate of the Get Better Academy in Prague, Czech Republic. Relatively new to the sport, having played organized basketball only the last three to four years. Averaged 9.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in the Czech Men’s First League. Colorado’s coaching staff was able to watch Dombek play in prep school tournaments in Rhode Island and New York during the 2017-18 season. He won a slam dunk contest at the Young Guns GBA Invitational in December 2017.
Academics: Was an Economics major while at Colorado.
Personal: Born Jakub Dombek on July 2, 1998, in Ostrava, Czech Republic. He is the son of Frantisek Dombek and Tamara Dombkova’ and has two brothers, Jan and Maxim. He is the 16th international player for the Buffaloes since the mid-1950s and the eighth in the Tad Boyle era. Had several Get Better Academy teammates go on to NCAA Division I basketball including, Maros Zeliznak (Jacksonville State), Ilya Tyrtyshnik (Ole Miss) and Michal Kozak (Weber State). His favorite team is the Los Angeles Lakers and favorite player is Carmelo Anthony.
