2008-09 (freshman year): Played in 18 games averaging 6.9 minutes, 1.8 points, 1.6 rebound per game • Accumulated 24 points in 42 minutes off the bench in the final three games of the season. Prior to that stretch, had a total of nine points in 15 contests • Scored a season-high 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting (.714) with three steals against Texas A&M (Mar. 4) • Season-best 18 minutes at Iowa State (Jan. 27) with a personal-high five rebounds • Eight points, four rebounds, two blocks at Kansas State (Mar. 7) • Explosive rebounder, finisher around the basket, very athletic around the rim • First CU mbb student-athlete from the state of Georgia since Martice Moore, 1996-97 (Atlanta) • Recorded multiple rebounds nine times (five conference); Recorded a blocked shot in five games and led the team with a pair at Iowa State (Jan. 27), and at Kansas State (Mar. 7) • Made four-of-four from the free throw line against Texas (Mar. 11) • Played 10 minutes against Colorado State (Dec. 10) and scored his first collegiate points (two) with two rebounds.

JOHNSON HS: Averaged 20 points and 15 rebounds as senior • Earned second-team all-state (Class AAAAA) honors • Junior year averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and three assists per game • Finished career with two Region 3-AAAAA Championships • 42-12 record during junior and senior years • Named Johnson HS most valuable player three times • Known for his ability to get above the rim, winning the Savannah Holiday Classic Slam Dunk Contest twice, as a sophomore and junior • Rivals.com ranked Veal as the nation's 41st best power forward prospect from the Class of 2008, and the 18th best recruit from the talent rich Peach State • Became high school's first basketball player to sign a Division I scholarship since 2004.
