High School—A four-year letterman, he was the Kansas 5A state champion as a junior with an 11-under par 67-64—131 earning medalist honors by three strokes at Emporia Municipal Golf Club; he pulled away from the pack by going birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie to open the back nine in the second round, in which he hit 17 of 18 greens with no three-putts … Because he played in an outside AJGA event prior to the state meet as a senior, Kansas rules prohibited him from defending his title (he tied for 16th in the AJGA’s premier Team TaylorMade Invitational with an even-par 69-73-68—210 effort (his final round 68 the eighth-lowest score of the 72 players in the field) … He finished fourth in the state meet as a sophomore (72-74—146, +2) and fifth as a freshman (69-68—137, -3) … He won four of the eight tournaments he played as a senior (low of 5-under 67; the other four all top 10 efforts), including winning the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League (AVCTL) tournament in a playoff (shot a 1-under 69 and won on the first extra hole) … He also won the league meet as a sophomore, with top three finishes as a freshman and junior … He capped his high school career with a two-stroke win in the Kansas 5A Substate with an even-par 71 … He led Andover Central to both league and substate titles, with the latter propelling ACHS to the state meet … A four-time, first-team All-State selection,
