College?This Year (Sr.): He played in all four fall tournaments, struggling out of the gate in the first two but closing with a pair of top 20 finishes. After shooting 37-over par combined in the UNM Tucker and the Pepperdine Club Glove, he played Stanford’s The Nelson and The Prestige At PGA West even par. He tied for 18th at The Nelson, carding a 1-under 212, and tied for 14th at The Prestige with a 1-over 217.
2002-03 (Jr.): He became a regular member of the traveling squad for the first time and finished third on the team in stroke average with a 75.03 mark. He averaged 75.2 for five spring meets, finishing in the top 48 in four of those with his best effort a 30th place tie in CU’s Stevinson Ranch Invitational (223, including a final round 70, one of the best third rounds in the meet). He posted his two collegiate career best finishes in the fall, with a career best effort in placing seventh at Kansas State’s Jim Colbert Invitational (thanks to a final round 72 for a 226 total), along with a 23rd place finish at Stanford’s The Nelson (216, +3). His opening round 68 (3-under) in Cal-Berkeley’s MacKenzie Invitational still stands as his best collegiate round to date. He ended the fall on an even a higher note, as he was one of just a handful of players to go undefeated (3-0-0) in the inaugural GCAA Match Play Championships.
2001-02 (Soph): He played in four meets on the year, three in the spring, never really getting untracked as all nine of his rounds were between 77 and 80. In his one fall tournament, when he tied for 51st in the Washington Husky Invitational, he was in the top 20 heading into the final round (75-74?149), but shot 85 the last day to finish with a 234 total.
2000-01 (Fr.-RS): He saw action in four tournaments, three in the fall, with his best effort a pair of 72s for a four-over par 144 total and 22nd place finish in the Colorado State Ram Invitational. He played as an individual in CU’s Stevinson Ranch Invitational, and after an opening round 85, he settled in with scores of 76 and 73 to tie for 26th with a 234 total. He had a 76.82 average for 11 rounds overall, but owned an impressive 74.75 final round average.
1999-2000 (Fr.): He redshirted as a true freshman, though he did participate in team tournament qualifying.
High School?He tied for 18th in the Colorado State High School Championships as a senior, with a 77-74?151 scorecard at Hollydot Golf Course in Colorado City. As a junior, he was 26th in the state meet, carding a 76-80?156 at Collindale Golf Club in Fort Collins, leading Longmont to its first appearance in the state championships in 11 years. His high school coach was Keith Martin, a letterman of the CU golf team. He also was a member of the freshman basketball team.
Other?2003: Reached the finals of the Colorado State Amateur Match Play Championships, where he lost to a former CU teammate, Shawn Wills (5 and 4) in the 36-hole match. He also won Longmont’s Harry Wheeler Match Play for the third time in four years, to go with his 2000 and 2001 titles, and was the runner-up in the Longmont City Championship. 2002: He just missed qualifying for the U.S. Public Links Championship, as his 70-71?141 scorecard at Mira Vista Golf Course (Aurora) was two shots out of a playoff for the final two of three spots. He teamed with his brother to place third in the Colorado Two-Man Championship, tied for 21st in the Colorado Stroke Play championship (306) and tied for the seventh low amateur in the Colorado Open (74-72-72-76?294). 2001: He captured his second straight Longmont City Championship, carding a 70-67-77?214 total at Ute Creek Golf Course, but needing a win on the first playoff hole over Nick Babl to claim the title. He was third in the Ute Creek Invitational (68-76?144), and placed ninth in the Colorado Public Links championship, shooting the second lowest score (2-under) in the final round to close with a 76-73-70?219 effort. A 75-74-74-73?296 scorecard at the Colorado State Stroke Play Championship tied him for 19th overall, the best finish by any Buff in the ’01 event. He tied for the 11th low amateur at the Colorado Open, but his accomplishment there was coming back with a second round 67 after an opening 79 to make the cut; he had a 79-67-71-71?292 scorecard for the event. He had rounds of 73 and 80 in the local U.S. Amateur qualifying but missed advancing out of Colorado. 2000: He finished third in the Colorado Public Links Championship, turning in a 73-70-65?208 performance at Hyland Hills Golf Course in Westminster (teammate Ben Portie won with a 200 total, but he was just one out of second). He was the eighth low amateur in the Colorado Open (73-76-73-74?296), tying for 57th overall at Saddle Rock G.C. He shot a 77-71?148 at Mira Vista in Denver in U.S. Public Links Qualifying, tying for 14th. He also won the Longmont City Championship (67-70-74?211), and finished third in the Fox Hill Invitational (71-74?145) and fourth in the Loveland Invitational (77-70?147). He also teamed with his brother Chad to finish fifth in the CGA Two-Man Championship. 1999: He finished second in the CGA Public Links Championships at Lafayette’s Indian Peaks Golf Course (70-72-70?212), winning the local qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Public Links in the process (the first two rounds counted). He went on to shoot 68-76?144 in the national meet to advance to the match play, where he lost his first match. He was seventh in the Colorado State Boys’ Stroke Play Championships, carding a 72-76-73?221 at Mira Vista Golf Course in Aurora. 1998: He finished second in the Colorado State Boys’ Stroke Play, turning in a 72-67-74?213 at Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder. He won the local U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier with a 72-67?139 effort, and missed the cut by just one stroke in Chicago. He was a member of the 1998 Colorado Cup team, and finished eighth in the AJGA Southwestern Invitational.
