College? This Year (Sr.): Playing in all four fall tournaments, he was third on the team in stroke average for the fall (76.6; his average, like the rest of the team, was inflated due to a combination of tough courses and tough weather conditions). He opened the fall with three top 35 finishes, highlighted by a 23rd place finish at the New Mexico Tucker Invitational, where he recorded one of two subpar rounds for the fall (both 1-under 71s). He had 28 birdies for the fall, fourth most on the team, and hit 67.3 percent of his fairways.
2004-05 (Jr.): He played in 10 of CU’s 11 fall tournaments, finishing third in stroke average (75.5). His best spring effort came in CU’s own Stevinson Ranch Invitational, where he tied for 17th (223, +7). His best spring round was a 4-under 68 in the first round of the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate on the “Big Island” (Hawai’i), where he finished with a 1-over 217 for 54 holes; his other subpar round was a first round 71 (-1) in the weather-shortened Courtyard By Marriott Intercollegiate. In the fall (four meets), he was second on the team in stroke average (75.0) with 11 of his 12 rounds counting toward team scoring. He had two top 20 finishes, tying for 12th in Stanford’s “The Nelson” (211, +4) and for 14th at the Notre Dame Invitational/Central Regional Preview (221, +11). His best score was a final round 69 at the UNM Tucker Invitational, the best final 18 hole score posted by any Buff for the fall.
2003-04 (Soph.): Eligible after transferring to CU from Oregon State, he had an immediate impact as he ended the fall second on the team in stroke average (73.11); he was fourth overall for the entire year (74.06), and was second in subpar rounds (8) and rounds in the 60s (5). He opened the spring strong as well, tying for 18th in the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate (212, -1) and for 22nd at the John Burns Intercollegiate (212, -4); in fact, he flirted with school records when he posted three straight rounds in the 60s and four straight subpar rounds. But he struggled a bit the next four meets, scoring a pair of 222s and 229s, though he did tie for 29th at CU’s Stevinson Ranch Invitational and a second round 68 was key in CU’s win at the Western Intercollegiate. He bounced back to lead Colorado at the Big 12 Championships, as he recorded three straight 74s for a 222 total to tie for 16th place. At the NCAA Central Regional, he tied for 101st (239, +23), as the Buffaloes struggled as an entire team. He played in three of the four fall tournaments, with a pair of top 20 finishes: he tied for 18th at Stanford’s “The Nelson” (212, -1), and tied for 20th at The Prestige At PGA West (219, +3). His 71.67 first-round stroke average was a team best, which included his low round of the fall (69) in The Nelson.
At Oregon State?2002-03 (Fr.): In lettering, he finished third on the team in stroke average as a true freshman, as he posted a 74.02 average for 34 rounds. He averaged 74.63 in the first round, but owned second and final round averages of 73.36, the latter being the second best on the team.
