College? This Season (Sr.): He saw action in one fall tournament, the season opener in the Rich Harvest Farms Invitational, turning in a 243 score in tying for 54th.

2005-06 (Jr.): He did not place high enough in team qualifying to participate in any fall meets, but did so right from the start in the spring and tied for 51st in the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate.  He became a regular on the travel squad, playing in seven of the nine tournaments in the spring, his first real extended action as a collegian.  He averaged 76.15 strokes for his 20 rounds, 15 of which counted toward team scoring. His best finish came in CU’s own Stevinson Ranch Invitational, where he tied for sixth overall with a 76-72?148 in the rain-shortened event.  He played fairly solid in his first-ever Big 12 Championships appearance, tying for 27th with a 224 total on a challenging Southern Hills Golf Club course in Tulsa; his opening round 71, his spring best, was the top score by a Buff for the first 18 holes and the third best recorded in CU’s 15 overall.

2004-05 (Soph.-RS): He saw action in four tournaments, two each in the spring and fall.  He tied for 58th in CU’s Stevinson-Ranch Invitational, scoring both his season best and worst rounds in the meet; a second round 73 propelled him into a tie for 30th only to fall to his eventual finish after a final round 87.  His other spring action came at The Maxwell, where he placed 61st with a 235 score.  In the fall, he finished seventh in the Northern Colorado Invitational with an 8-over par 224 score; he played as an individual in that tournament, as CU did not field a full team, and he responded with his first top 10 collegiate finish.  He also played in The Nelson, tying for 79th with a 233 score.  All six of his rounds were between 74 and 78.

2003-04 (Soph.): Redshirted; did not see any intercollegiate competition but did practice all year as well as participate in all qualifying rounds.

2002-03 (Fr.): He competed as a true freshman on CU’s traveling squad, playing in four fall tournaments, including the inaugural GCAA Match Play Championships where he posted a 1-2-0 record.  He had at least one solid round each time out, but also posted at least one 80 or higher in each meet as well, as he was a typical freshman adjusting to college competition and working on his consistency.  He did not qualify to play in any spring meets.

High School? He lettered four times in golf for coach Wayne Leighton at Greeley (Colo.) West High.  He was team captain as a senior, when he owned a stroke average of 71 and tied for sixth in the Colorado state championship meet at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs (69-72?141, a school best).  Greeley West captured the Northern Conference title that same year.  He was a three-time all-conference performer, the first GWHS golfer to accomplish that feat.  As a junior, his stroke average was about 74 per outing.  He also lettered three times in basketball, paying mostly shooting guard, leading GWHS in both rebounding and free throw percentage as a senior.

Other?2006: Selected as the Weld County Top Amateur Golfer of the Year and to the Colorado Cup Team.  With teammate Derek O’Neill, he won the Colorado Golf Association’s Two-Man Team Championship in a playoff with a 70-75?145 effort at Durango’s Dalton Ranch Golf Club.  He finished sixth in the CGA Stroke Play Championship at Boulder CC with a 73-66-69-71?279 (-1) scorecard; the second round 66 tied for the third low round in the tournament.  He lost in the semifinals of the CGA Match Play Championships (Plum Creek G&CC), as he won four matches to that point, including two over teammates (Patrick Grady and Kenny Coakley).  He also tied for 13th in the CGA Western Chapter Championship (69-71?140).  Qualified for the U.S. Amateur by finishing second in the sectional at Green Gables CC (69-74?143); in the stroke play at Chaska, Minn.(Chaska Town Course), he shot 74-77?151 but did not advance into match play (he tied for 136th overall in the 300-plus player field). Placed second in the Collindale Invitational (69-73?142) and in the Highland Hills Invitational (71-72?143); also tied for fourth in the Dick Billehus Invitational (76-70?146).  At the Cotton States Invitational, he advanced into match play with a 74-73?147 effort, and won first match by a 6 and 5 score (he was 8-under through 13) before falling in the second round.  Finished as the ninth low amateur (and 43rd overall) in the Colorado Open with a 76-67-72-70?285 performance at Green Valley Ranch GC.  2005: He tied for eighth in the Colorado State Stroke Play Championship, as he turned in a 67-71-72-71?281 (-3) effort at Glenmoor Country Club in Englewood.  He finished third in both the Highland Hills Invitational (71-72?143) and Boomerang Invitational (72-69?141).  Teamed with teammate Derek O’Neill to tie for seventh in the CGA Two-Man championship (70-74?144).  2004: He tied for 25th in the Colorado State Stroke Play Championship at Lakewood Country Club (71-76-78-71?296), and teamed with teammate Derek O’Neill to finish seventh in the CGA Two-Man Championship at Eagle Ranch CC (73-73?146).  He also made the first cut at the Southwestern Amateur.  2003: He advanced into the second round of the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying (75-79?154).  2001: He qualified and made the cut at the Colorado Open, and posted two top six AJGA finishes.

Best Career Round In Competition?63 (twice: CU Tournament Qualifier, Boulder Country Club February 2006; Greeley Country Club, Summer 2006).

Academics? He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from CU in May 2006, and is earning a second degree in history.  As a junior, he earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 Team honors for the 2005-06 season.  He was an honor roll student in high school and received the prestigious Honor Crest award as a senior.  He was named one of 10 Compaq Scholastic All-Americans by the AJGA for 2001-02.

Personal?Born June 13, 1983 in Denver.  He has aspirations of becoming a genetic engineer or doctor after college.  He volunteers his time in the summers giving junior golfers in the Greeley area lessons.  Father (Ken) played golf at the University of Northern Colorado, played on a few of the established mini-tours and is the head professional at Greeley Country Club.  Ryan earned one of the prestigious PGA of America Scholarships, awarded to children of PGA members based on academic merit and extracurricular activities.  He is very active on CU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), helping with community service events and making multiple Children’s Hospital visits.
