College?This Season (Fr.-RS): He played in three fall tournaments, placing fourth in the Ballyneal Challenge, an individual tournament where he turned in a 72-74?146 effort (+2), and then in two others where his rounds did not count toward CU’s team scoring.? He tied for 31st in the Air Force Miranda Invitational (221, +5) and then placed 74th in CU’s Mark Simpson Invitational, where he recorded a 3-under 69 in the second round as his first round in the 60s as a collegian.
2011-12 (Fr.): The coaching staff decided to redshirt him in his true freshman season, though he still competed in all team practices and tournament qualifiers.
High School?He became the first Regis golfer to play in four state high school championship meets (with two top seven finishes), and he also was a four-time, first-team All-League performer and led the team in stroke average four times,.? That included a 71.2 average his senior year, when he was the team captain and helped Regis win the Colorado 5A State team title.? He earned first-team All-State honors as a sophomore and junior on the golf course, and was Academic All-State his sophomore through senior years.? Those accomplishments earned him Wall of Fame honors at Regis.? Under coach Craig Rogers, Regis also was the 5A regional champion in 2007, 2008 and 2009, when Engel has stroke averages of 73, 72 and 71.5., respectively.? He also lettered one year in baseball (third baseman).
Other?2011: Finished 134th in the Trans-Miss at Kansas City Country Club (84-76?160).? He played in the Western Junior (Beverly CC, Chicago) but missed the cut.? 2010: He placed second in the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) Aspen Golf Classic with a 72-68-74?214 (-2) score, trailing only future teammate David Oraee in the event.? 2009: He placed 32nd in the Junior World Championship (78-74-77-76?305) and finishing second in the tournament’s qualifier (70-74?144).? Other Years: His background includes several top 10 finishes on the AJGA, FCWT and IJGT junior summer circuits since the age of 13.
