At Colorado: Career—Ryan returned for the 2023 season but was unable to race due to injuries.  He raced in all 34 races the prevoius three years after transferring from Boston College, finishing 29 of them with 15 top 20 and one top 10 performance, coming in 2020 at the Denver Invitation in a GS race.  Counting his season at Boston College, he has skied in 43 of a possible 46 races with 35 finishes with 17 top 20 finishes and one top 10 performance. 

2023 (Fifth Year)—Ryan was unable to participate in his extra season of eligibility and did not see the slopes in 2023.  He did continue to get it done in the classroom for the Buffaloes, however, earning his third mention on both the National Collegaite All-Academic Ski Team and Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.  He also earned his third letter as part of the program. 

2022 (Senior)—Ryan finished 10 of 12 races his senior season with four top 10 finishes, three in slalom at two in GS.  He skied his best at the end of the season, picking up two top 20 finishes in the final two races of the season, slalom races at the RMISA Championships, the second one being an extra qualifier.  After finishing lower than 30th for the first three races of the season, he rebounded to finish in the top 23 in six of his last seven finishes the remainder of the season.  His best slalom finish came at the Utah Invitational where he took 17th in the slalom while also finishing 21st in the GS.  His best GS race came at the Denver Invitational when he finished 16th before taking 23rd in the slalom race there.  He earned the second letter of his career and took care of business in the classroom, earning mention on the National All-Academic Ski Team and the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll for the second straight season. 

2021 (Junior)—Ryan took as step forward in his junior season, finishing nine of 10 races, tied for the best on the team, with seven top 20 performances, three more than his sophomore season.  He opened the season in solid fashion, earning three top 20 performances in the fourth races in the Colorado series, taking 15th and 17th in two slalom races in Aspen for the DU Invitational and 20th in one slalom race at CU’s Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational in Eldora.  In the Utah series, he finished all six races with four top 20 performances, taking 13th and 16th in two GS races at Park City for the RMISA Invitational at Utah and 19th in a slalom race at Snowbird in the RMISA Invitational at Westminster and 18th in the slalom race at the RMISA Championships at Park City, where he also took 24th in the GS race.  He earned his first letter and was also solid in the classroom, being named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team and the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.  

2020 (Sophomore)—Ryan made an immediate impact on the Buffs, finishing 10 of 12 races and earning four top 20 and one top 10 finish.  He led the Buffs in one race and was in the top three finishers two other times to earn his first letter at CU.  He made his presence felt immediately, taking sixth in the GS race as part of the DU Invitational in Aspen.  He also finished 16th in the GS qualifier race there and 23rd in the slalom race.  He had a pair of 22nd place finishes in the GS and slalom races as part of the CU Invitational and then finished 17th in the slalom qualifier race at Eldora.  In Utah, he had a bit of bad luck, finishing 28th in the GS and then not finish either slalom race in Park City, one qualifier and one as part of the Utah Invitational.  In Bozeman, he finished 16th in the GS, his best GS finish in the RMISA and second-best in his career, and then took 22nd in the GS and 27th in the slalom as part of the RMISA Championships. 

At Boston College—He participated in nine of 12 regular season races and finished eight of the nine races … His best finish was at the end of the season at the EISA Championships at Bates, taking 15th in the giant slalom … He scored for the team in all eight finishes on the season, accumulating 141 team points for the Eagles, 95 in GS action and 46 in slalom races.  

Club—He skied for Killington Mountain School from 2012-18 and prior to that was part of the Belleayre Mountain club from 2006-12 … In all, he has participated in 181 FIS sanctioned races since 2015 and has finished 136 of them with 47 Top 20, 21 Top 10 and 15 Top 5 finishes including eight podiums and two race victories … His first victory came at Sugarloaf in January 2017 in a downhill race and his most recent win was a giant slalom race at Sunday River in March 2019 … He also has 13 starts on the North American Cup circuit and finished in the top 30 three times in downhill action earning six points … He has also competed in the United States and Canadian National Championships and the U.S. Junior National Championships … He has also trained and competed with National Training Group projects.  

High School—He graduated from Killington Mountain School in Killington, Vt., in 2017 … He was a recipient of the Fred Coriell Cup, given to one male and female student at KMS who fully embodies the mission statement. 

In The Classroom—He is earning two degrees from the Leeds School of Business at Colorado in Finance and Marketing.  He was on the Dean’s List at Boston College.  He earned a mention on the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team and the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll in both 2021 and ‘22. 

Personal—Robert John Ryan III was born June 15, 1999, in Kingston, N.Y. … His parents are Robert and Amy Ryan and he has two older sisters, Cailin and Micaela and a  younger brother Cian … He would eventually like to start and run his own company after skiing in the World Cup circuit … He has volunteered for fundraisers and community events for his local hospital … He enjoys surfing, biking and traveling in his spare time … He has spent time over the summer in Cape Cod surfing and bartending … He chose Colorado because “of the opportunity to continue to pursue skiing while getting my education. Growing up I never thought I would go out west for college, but heading west seemed like the best option and a large part of choosing Colorado was because of the relationship and respect my coach had for Richard Rokos.”
