At Colorado: Career—Nilsen has competed in and finished 18 races for the Buffs through two seasons with 14 top 20 and two top 20 performances.  He has lettered twice and qualified for the NCAA Championships twice, competing there once after his freshman season.

2023 (Sophomore)—Nilsen had another solid season as a sophomore, finishing all eight races he participated in and picking up four top 20 performances, three in freestyle and one in classic.  He opened the season with a pair of top 20s at the US National Championships, finishing 19th in both the 10K freestyle and classic sprint races, and extended the streak to three straight top 20s out of the gate with an 18th place finish in the 5K freestyle at the DU Invitational after missing both the MSU and CU meets.  He had his best finish taking 15th for the Buffs at the RMISA Championships in the 10K freestyle race to pick up his only team scoring of the season, earning 17 points.  He lettered and qualified for the NCAA Championships and participated in the World University Games in January in Lake Placid.  He also got it done in the classroom, earning a spot on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.

2022 (Freshman)—Nislen had a solid freshman season during which he finished all 12 possible races and finished outside the top 20 just one time.  Of his 11 top 20 performances, there were two top 10 performances, both in freestyle races.  He opened his college career with an 18th place in the freestyle sprints and 15th in the 15K classic race as part of the Utah Invitational and closed out that event with a 12th place in the classic sprint race.  The following week at Montana, he took 15th in the freestyle and 20th in the classic race at the MSU Invitational.  In Alaska, he picked up three top 13 finishes and had the best finish of the season with a seventh place in the 10K freestyle as part of the RMISA Invitational after taking 13th in the freestyle and 12th in the classic as part of the UAF Nanook Invitational.  He then had a solid performance at the RMISA Championships, finishing 13th in the classic race before picking up his second top 10, taking eighth in the freestyle race.  At the NCAA Championships, he finished 16th in the classic race, close to his RMISA finish, and while pushing for a top 10 and All-America honor in the freestyle race, he collided with another skier and hit his head, eventually finishing 35th despite being in the lead pack at the time.  He earned his first letter on the season, as well.

Prior To CU—Nilsen has skied for the Heming IL club team since he was nine years old under coach Marion Huber Kaas.  His top results include taking second place in a junior Norwegian Cup race, winning the Junior Nordic Ski Competition in Voukatti and taking a top 10 there another season.  He has 74 starts in FIS-sanctioned races dating back to 2017 and has finished in the top 30 36 times with 13 top 10 performances including two podiums, both runner-up finishes in 10K freestyle races.  He has competed at the Norwegian National Championships three times and has 15 starts in Junior National Championship races in Norway with three top six finishes including a fifth place finish in the freestyle sprint race at Voss in 2017 and sixth place finishes in the 10K freestyle races at Harstad in 2017 and Steinkjer in 2018.

High School—He graduated from WANG Toppidrett in Oslo in 2019.

In The Classroom—He is majoring in Marketing from CU’s Leeds School of Business at Colorado.

Personal—Nilsen was born June 12, 2000, in Oslo, Norway.  He parents are Henning Nilsen and Beate Lutcherath Nilsen.  He has two brothers, a twin brother Christoffer and younger brother Tobias.  He enjoys windsurfing and skiing and his other hobbies include sailing, backcountry skiing and hanging out with friends.  He would like to work within marketing and continue to ski in Norway after his college days are over.

Why Colorado?—He chose Colorado because of the facilities and endless opportunities and places to train.  The cooperation between athletics and academics are important for me to take the best step forward in both skiing and academically.
