He owns a career-best fourth place finish in the downhill event in a 2009 FIS race in Aspen, Colo. Though not a collegiate skier, Nelson entered a pair of collegiate series races as an individual in 2009 and earned an 11th place finish at the DU Invitational in Winter Park and a top-10 finish at CU's home invitational at Eldora. Nelson took 10th in the CU Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial, which was an impressive finish after starting 50th in a field of mostly collegiate skiers.
In the Classroom: A four-time Silver Honor Roll member, Nelson plans to enroll in the Business school at CU.
Personal: Spencer Nelson was born on March 16, 1990 and is the son of Peter Nelson and Peggy Smith. He has one brother, Connor (17) who is a junior in high school. Other than skiing, Nelson enjoys mountain biking, weight lifting, hiking and rafting. He is a second-generation Buffalo and has climbed 16 14ers to-date. Despite suffering a life-threatening trauma accident which required him to have spleen embolization surgery in May of 2009, Nelson is ready to kick-start his collegiate skiing career as a Buffalo this winter.
