Prior To CU–Oestroem competed for IL Heming Ski Club in Oslo, Norway, for 15 years. He began racing FIS events in 2020 and steadily built his resume with strong results across multiple disciplines. As a junior, he finished second in the U16 regional championships in both giant slalom and super-G, and later placed third at the U21 national championships in both downhill and super-G. He added numerous strong FIS results, including fifth in the giant slalom at Hafjell in 2023, along with multiple additional top-15 finishes against deep Norwegian fields. He also competed in several Norwegian Junior National Championships between 2022–24, highlighted by a 12th-place slalom finish at Ål in 2023. He came to CU with 31.35 FIS points in slalom and 23.53 in giant slalom.
High School—He graduated from Norges Toppidrettsgymnas in Bærum, Norway, in 2024.
In the Classroom—He is interested in majoring in Business at Colorado. He is interested in Business because it’s constantly evolving, and it gives him the chance to learn and adapt.
Personal—Full name is Hjalmar Christoffer Oestroem. His birthday is November 27, and he was born in Oslo, Norway. His parents are Richard and Hilde Öström. He has one brothe,r Jacob. His hobbies include watching sports, playing tennis, and backcountry skiing. He is half Swedish.
Why Colorado?—”I chose Colorado because of the high level of academics and athletics. I also think Colorado is a beautiful state where you can hike in the mountains in the summer, and ski in the winter.”
