An Academic All-American from 1999-02, Dan Weinberger, who graduated in 2002 from CU’s Leeds School of Business, is in his third season on the CU coaching staff of his alma mater.

From 1997-01 he was a skate and classic coach at St. Cloud (Minn.) Cathedral. During the summer of 2002 he was a guide for Les Voyageur, an extreme 28-day canoe trip into the Canadian Shield and that Thanksgiving holiday he coached the Boulder Nordic Club Camp.

A former student athlete for the University of Colorado ski team from 1998?2003, he had the privilege of racing for Richard Rokos for four years, and Bruce Cranmer for two of his four years. He was not a recruited collegiate athlete, so upon enrolling in CU there was no spot on the varsity and he was told he needed to spend a year on the development team. He focused on training his freshman year, and when he returned for his sophomore year, he knocked on Rokos’ door and for a spot on his team. Coach Rokos granted his request and he never looked back.

Through a four-year varsity career he raced in 40 collegiate Nordic races with 17 top 10 finishes and 37 top 20 finishes. He also competed in three NCAA championships, was an Academic All-American from 1999-02, was a four year letterwinner, and was a member of the 1999 NCAA championship team.

Weinberger moved to Denver upon graduation to pursue a career in Finance. He was employed by Jackson National Life as a variable annuity wholesaler for two years. He played a pivotal role in taking his New England territory from number 14 in sales to number one in the company. This performance resulted in a promotion to the Long Island, N.Y. territory and a seat on the Leader’s Council within the company. During the spring of 2004, Bruce Cranmer approached him at the annual DU vs. CU soccer game and told him he would need an assistant for the following year. The seed was planted in Dan and he decided that summer to give back to the program. He is also enrolled in the MBA program through CU to further his education.

Daniel David Weinberger was born Sept. 19, 1978 in St. Cloud, Minn. His brother, Stan, skied collegiately for Dartmouth.
