Career at Colorado—She is the only newcomer on the alpine side of the team, men or women, for the 2015 season, adding to an already very deep women’s alpine team. She will be able to gain valuable experience and work her way up the seeding lists throughout her freshman season in Boulder.
2015 (Freshman)—She skied in eight races prior to the start of the college season, starting at Echo Mountain at CU’s Jimmie Heuga Classic, where she finished 12th and 17th in two slalom races. She hit the podium in third place in a GS race at Copper Mountain and then was fifth in a slalom race in Steamboat Springs.
Club—Prior to coming to CU, she participated in 86 FIS races between 2012-14. She finished 74 of those 86 races with 43 top 20 finishes, 31 top 10, 22 top 5, 13 podiums and seven race victories. Her race victories include four Giant Slalom, two Super G and one Slalom race. She also had four runner-up GS finishes and one more GS and slalom podium. She broke out in National Junior races in 2012, bringing home four straight top 10 finishes in February 2012 including her first race victory, a slalom at Blackwater, N.H. After graduating from Burke Academy, she skied around Colorado and took part in Nor-Am races in Copper Mountain and Panorama, British Columbia, in December 2012. After that Nor-Am experience, her results soared and from January to April 2013, she had 19 races, finishing 14 with 11 top 10 finishes including eight top five performances. Back east skiing at Sunapee, N.H., and Lusten, Minn., she had six straight top five finishes that includes three podiums and a pair of runner-up performances in GS races. She won back-to-back GS races in Waterville Valley, N.H., in January 2014 and a month later at Mount Sunapee, N.H., she won another GS races. At the National Junior Championships in 2014, she finished sixth in the Super G and fourth in the GS and then took 21st in both the slalom at GS at the National Championships at Squaw Valley. After nationals closing out her 2014 season, she won three of her last six races including two Super G’s and a GS, and also hit the podium and had two top five slalom finishes to close out the season in Lusten, Minn.
High School—She graduated from Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont in 2012.
In the Classroom—She is interested in majoring in Integrative Physiology at Colorado and is also interested in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. After college she would like to be a doctor or nurse practitioner.
Personal—Danielle Brownell-Patty was born on January 16, 1996, in Aspen, Colo., to Yves Patty and Belinda Brownell, who skied collegiate for the Buffs. She was a rodeo queen for three years is a competitive barrel racer, something she will continue to do over the summers while attending CU. She was a PT aide and counselor for a summer camp for kids and adults with autism. She enjoys dirt bikes and mountain biking and loves kids, funny moves and pineapples. She chose Colorado “for a thousand reasons! I love Colorado, the high energy of the ski team” and because CU is “a big enough university where any academic passions are possible.”
