This Season ? “Joel didn’t participate in fall training as he was with football full time, so he’s sort of a dark horse in the game since he didn’t compete against skiers and work on the specifics of training for skiing. But considering that he’s from Steamboat and knows the hill, this is not any new thing. He always trains full out and picks up skiing quickly.  I hope he will get back to his skiing form. He’s trying to catch up with everything now that football is over.”

2005 ? The lone men’s alpine skier on the NCAA Championship roster with the 17th seed out of the west, Adams was the first freshman to pace the men’s alpine team since former teammate Brad Hogan in 2003.   At those championships he finished 19th in the slalom, after starting in the 28th position and being in 24th after the morning’s first run, and 22nd in the GS.  With top-20 finishes in nine races, he was the Buffs’ top finisher in four giant slalom races with a career best fifth place finish at New Mexico, actually completed prior to the west regional.  His best slalom race of the year was in his first collegiate race, finishing 12th in Park City in the season-opening Utah Invitational.

High School? Adams quarterbacked Steamboat’s football team for four seasons, and was captain of the 2002 team.  He holds Steamboat’s single-game passing record and in a single game threw for one score, ran for a second and intercepted another for a defensive score, also a school mark.

Club ?Adams skied for Steamboat Springs for 10 years, four of those on Team Colorado.  He also spent one year skiing in Park City, Utah.  In 2001 he won the International Whistler Cup at 15-years-old (the best 15 and under skier in the world) and qualified for the U.S. Development Team, but declined the opportunity because he felt he was too young and wanted to continue playing football.  In 2004 he turned in a fifth place finish in the Mammoth Spring Series against competition that included U.S. Ski Team members.

Academics ? An open option major at Colorado, Adams is interested in following in his father’s footsteps and studying international business.  He never applied to any other schools as he has wanted to attend the Boulder campus since he was a kid.

Personal ? Joel Robert Adams was born Jan. 6, 1985 in Steamboat Springs.  His parents are John and Tamara Adams of Steamboat.  His older brother Wes is a senior in college and his younger brother, Trace, is a freshman.  His hobbies include playing golf and football and spending time outdoors.
