Career at Colorado— Mottau left the CU program after one season on the squad after skiing in seven races for the Buffaloes as a freshman in 2014.
2014 (Freshman)—Mottau skied in seven races for the Buffs and finished just three in his true freshman and only season on the team. Two of his finishes were impressive, however, as he hit the podium in third place in the GS race at the Utah Invitational to open the season and followed that up with a sixth place finish in the GS race at the Montana State Invitational. Those two finishes did earn him second team All-RMISA honors.
Club—He competed in the Whistler Cup twice and also finished third at the Stowe Spring Series in March 2013 and in the Junior Vail Spring Series in April 2012. Entering Colorado, he has over 200 FIS alpine races under his belt and he finished 138 of them. He finished in the top 20 in 48 of those races and has 17 top 10 finishes. He has four podium appearances, including a second place in a National Junior GS race in 2012 at Copper Mountain.
High School—Mottau graduated in 2012. He appeared on the honor roll three times and earned the Men’s Alpine Achievement Award in 2011 and 2012.
In the Classroom—Mottau was a Psychology major during his season on the team.
Personal— Tanner Mottau was born September 27, 1993 in Denver, Colo., to Glenn Mottau and Michele Morris. His hobbies include mountain biking, writing songs, drawing and golf. He has held a summer job as a physical therapist. He chose Colorado because “it’s a great school with an amazing college ski team. It’s also an amazing state.”
