Bio
JUNIOR (2017): Phillips started 15 matches and made 21 appearances at holding central midfielder as she helped the Buffs reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament and break the school records for shutouts (14) and goals-against average (0.61). She attempted 10 shots and had two assists on the season. In 1,510 minutes played, the Buffs had a 0.54 GAA and outscored their opponents 18-9 when she was on the pitch. Phillips recorded both of her assists in a 6-1 win at Denver on Sept. 16, assisting on the second goal of the game by Tatum Barton in the 47th minute and a goal by Joss Orejel in the 60th minute that put the Buffs up 4-1. She played 90 or more minutes five times during the season. Prior to missing CU’s second-round NCAA Tournament match with an injury, she started five of the final six matches, helping the Buffs go 4-0-1 in their final five Pac-12 matches, and win their first-round match in the NCAA Tournament over Denver.
SOPHOMORE (2016 AT MARYLAND): Phillips played in 16 games and started 12 times as a sophomore at midfielder. She scored a goal against Penn on Aug. 28 in a win off a 35-yard rocket. For the season, she attempted 13 shots.
FRESHMAN (2015 AT MARYLAND): She played in 18 games and made eight starts as a midfielder. Her 16 shot attempts were second-best on the team. She made her first career start against LaSalle on Aug. 30.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Phillips has been a part of several youth national team roster pools, including the U-18 team in 2013 and 2014, the U-15 team in 2011 and U-14 in 2010.
OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: She was selected to the ECNL national camp in 2013 and the 2013 ’96 ODP National Team. She was also a member of the ODP regional team from 2010-12 and competed with Region II in 2011 in Costa Rica. Phillips was in ECNL/id2 from 2010-15 in Detroit.
CLUB TEAM: She helped Motor City FC win the U-20 national championship and also competed with Vardar (2014-15) and Michigan Hawks (2005-14).
HIGH SCHOOL: Phillips graduated from Hartland High School in 2015 and earned Summa Cum Laude honors. She was a four-star-rated player coming out of high school by Top Drawer Soccer. She lettered in track and cross country.
IN THE CLASSROOM: She is majoring in broadcast journalism and media production because she loves writing, investigating, working with cameras and telling peoples’ stories.
PERSONAL: She was born Cassandra Phillips to Anthony and Kimberly Phillips on Oct. 17, 1996 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Her older sister Kaylee plays soccer at Michigan State and she also has a younger brother Matt, who is committed to play college soccer, and a younger sister Sophie. Her father also played soccer at Michigan State. She selected CU because it is a “beautiful area, it had my programs of interest, and I really liked the coaches, facilities and could tell the team had great chemistry.”
