2019-2020 (Senior): Started out her season ranked 53rd in the nation in doubles with Sara Nayar ... Received invitation to compete in the ITA All-America Championships where she and Nayar upset the No.4 and No.38-ranked duos in the nation ... Won three-straight matches at the ITA Mountain Regional before losing in the semis ... As an individual she picked up three wins including two in the Regional Championships to advance to the quarterfinals. 

2018-2019 (Junior): Monica finished the season 21-10 overall in singles and led CU in wins for the season ... She was in the No.2 slot for singles and No.1 spot for doubles ...  Malinen picked up a critical point against Oregon to help win the match ... In doubles she won points against California and Stanford ... Upset the No.2 doubles team in the nation to begin being ranked ... Also upset the No.15 tandem from Stanford .. Finished the season ranked No.43 in the nation in doubles.

2017-18 (Sophomore at Western Kentucky): Malinen was named second-team All-Conference USA in doubles and posted an 11-9 record in singles, including 2-1 at No. 3 and 3-5 at No. 4. She had a season-best five-match winning streak from Sept. 15 through Oct. 12. She was also a part of WKU’s top doubles pair, going 17-8 overall, including 9-3 at the No. 1 spot. Malinen and Moka Ito won five straight doubles matches at No. 1 from Feb. 18 to March 10.
 
2016-17 (Freshman at Western Kentucky): Malinen earned second-team All-Conference USA honors in singles and went 11-6 in singles matches, playing Nos. 2-5 in the lineup. Her best record was 4-1 at the No. 5 position, but she won at least two matches at each of those spots. In doubles, she was 8-5 overall, including 8-4 at the No. 3 position.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: She was a 2016 graduate of Kastelli High School in Oulu, Finland.
 
CLUB TENNIS: Malinen played at Oulun Verkkopalloseura club for seven years. She and her team were the Finnish champions and she was coached by Merike Stamberg.
 
IN THE CLASSROOM: She plans on majoring in integrative physiology and wants to be a physiotherapist after graduation.
 
PERSONAL: Monica Malinen was born on Nov. 5, 1997, to Eira and Juha Malinen. Her older sister Jessica also played tennis. She enjoys playing all sports and watching Netflix. She speaks English and Finnish fluently, along with some Swedish. She chose CU over Louisville, North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast.
