Jeff Cammon
Jeff Cammon
Jeff Cammon is in his second season as an assistant coach with the University of Colorado women’s basketball team in 2017-18.

In his first year in 2016-17, Cammon helped the Buffs to one of the best single-season turnarounds in school history as they more than doubled their win total from the previous year. CU finished the year 17-16 overall and tied for ninth in the Pac-12, a year after a last-place finish in the conference. The Buffs also reached the third round of the WNIT, their first postseason appearance since 2014.

Throughout the 2016-17, Colorado was impressive. CU started the season 10-0 for just the fifth time in school history, including a win over No. 15/19 Kentucky. The 10-game winning streak was the longest since 2012. In Pac-12 play, the Buffs’ signature win came on Feb. 12 when they upset No. 24 California on the road, their first win over a ranked team on the road since 2007.

Three players earned postseason awards from the Pac-12, including first-team all-conference sophomore Kennedy Leonard, who was among the conference and national leaders in scoring, assists, steals and assist/turnover ratio. Haley Smith and Alexis Robinson were both named honorable mention all-Pac-12 and Smith was also honorable mention for the All-Defensive team.

Prior to joining Colorado, Cammon spent the previous two seasons (2014-16) with the California Bears. While at Cal, Cammon was instrumental in leading the Bears to the 2014-15 Pac-12 Conference championship game and also helped guide them to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in that same season. During Cammon’s tenure in Berkeley, Cal posted a 40-27 record.

Prior to his time at in the Bay Area, Cammon served as an assistant coach at Long Beach State for five seasons. Cammon helped lead the program to five straight Big West Tournament appearances and in 2012-13, the 49ers were invited to play in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament, marking the program’s first national postseason appearance in more than a decade.

In addition, Cammon played a key role in helping Long Beach State reach new heights during the 49ers’ 2009-10 and 2011-12 campaigns. In 2009-10, LBSU finished fourth in Big West as the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. LBSU went 9-7 in league play, posting its first winning record in league play in four years. During the 2011-12 season, LBSU reached the Big West Championship finals for the first time in 11 years after the 49ers defeated second-seed Cal State Northridge and top-seed Cal Poly along the way.

Cammon spent two years as the head girls’ varsity basketball coach at Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, Calif. before returning to the collegiate level. He also has served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Chaffey Community College and his alma mater, Alcorn State University.

A three-year starting point guard at Alcorn State, Cammon was named a team captain twice and played a pivotal role in leading the Braves to three conference championships and an NCAA Tournament appearance as a student-athlete.

Cammon graduated from Alcorn State in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and in 2005, he earned his master’s in physical education.
