Melissa MacFarlane, standing at 6-7 is the tallest player in CU women's basketball history and the type of low-post player CU needs to compete in the Big 12. She provides the Buffaloes a great presence in the lane and has been working on her footwork and offensive post moves.

2009-10 (Freshman): Played in 18 games as a first-year Buffalo, seeing most of that time during the Big 12 season which featured some of the nation's best post players. She had four points, hitting 2-of-3 from the field, and a career-high three rebounds in a personal best 22 minutes against No. 14 (AP)/19 (WBCA) Texas. Netted a total 13 points on the season, scoring seven from the line (on 10 attempts). Scored a career-best five points against Southern Utah, all from the free-throw line, hitting on 5-of-6 attempts. She made her collegiate debut by playing five minutes against Illinois-Chicago (11/20), recording three rebounds, one blocked shot and hitting 1-of-2 free throws.

High School: Melissa MacFarlane is a 2009 graduate of Millard North High School. She was a first team all-conference and second team all-state selection as she helped the Mustangs to a second consecutive Nebraska Class A State Tournament appearance. As a junior she averaged 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds as a junior for the Mustangs who finished 21-5 and placed third in the 2008 state tournament, the team's first appearance since 2001. McFarlane earned Associated Press Class A All-State second team honors and was an honorable mention pick to the Omaha World Herald's all-state team. The All-Star Girls Report rates her as the 20th best center in the country and the 70th best player overall. MacFarlane earned honorable mention to The Sporting News' 2008-09 Preseason High School All-America team. She graduated as Millard North's all-time leading rebounder and holds the third best scoring total in team history. Her freshman season she recorded the school's first ever triple double. In the summer of 2008 she played with the Blue Star Select Team, traveling to Reze, France, playing on the same team with current teammates Brenna and Meagan Malcolm-Peck.

Academics: MacFarlane is an open option major, interested in geology. She would like to be a teacher and college coach.

Personal: Melissa Marie MacFarlane was born on August 5, 1991, in Omaha. She is the daughter of David and Mary Ann MacFarlane. She has an older brother, Andy (20), who is a junior in college and a younger sister, Patty (18) who is a freshman in college. Her father David, a 7-footer, played basketball for Nebraska from 1979-81. MacFarlane participated in gymnastics for four years as a youth and can still do a handstand and a front flip. She is a good dancer and she enjoys hanging out with friends.
