Monica Armstrong is in her fifth year at Colorado and her second as the Recruiting Coordinator & Special Assistant to the Head Coach for women's basketball.

She spent her first three seasons at CU as an academic mentor for the University of Colorado’s Herbst Academic Center.

Armstrong joined the Buffaloes after 10 years on the women’s basketball coaching staff at Mt. San Antonio College (Calif.). During her time at Mt. SAC, she served as the first assistant coach, director of operations and recruiting coordinator, helping the Mounties to six state titles in that span. While at Mt. SAC, she was also the head coach of the West Coast Premier Basketball Academy from 2008-15.

Armstrong played two seasons at point guard for the Mounties, leading the team in steals both her freshman and sophomore season. She moved on to play her junior season at Metro State in Denver and finished her career at Cal Poly Pomona. Armstrong earned her bachelor’s degree in business communications from the University of Phoenix in 2014. She will complete her masters degree in higher education this fall from the University of Colorado Boulder.

A native of Diamond Bar, Calif., Armstrong played basketball and softball at Diamond Bar High School and played AAU ball with current WNBA star Diana Taurasi.

Armstrong enjoys playing in competitive adult sports leagues. She got into coaching to “pay it forward, and showcase the value of a diverse staff to engage in leadership development for student-athletes”. Her philosophy is “to teach the game, develop the person, build their leadership skills and foster emotional maturity.”
