SENIOR (2017): Brown played 17 games with seven starts as a defender for her senior season, recording seven groundballs, six draw controls and five caused turnovers. Brown ran as a defensive midfielder, whose speed helped the Buffaloes clear the ball and push transition attack. She was also key in slowing down the other team’s fast break attempts. She had two groundballs and one caused turnover in the win against Marquette on March 5 and recorded one draw control in the wins against Massachusetts, Stetson, Winthrop and Fresno State. Brown also had a season best two draw controls against San Diego State on April 16. In the first round of the NCAA Tournament on May 12 against Massachusetts, she had one groundball and one caused turnover.
JUNIOR (2016): Brown saw action in 18 games with 11 starts as a midfielder. She had nine ground balls, two caused turnovers, two draw controls and one shot attempt. She had a ground ball and caused a turnover at No. 7/6 Notre Dame on Feb. 26. She recorded a ground ball in her first start of the season, a 10-8 win at Marquette on Feb. 28. She had two ground balls each at No. 7/15 Northwestern and against Saint Mary’s (Calif.). Brown started 11 straight games from Feb. 28 to April 17.
SOPHOMORE (2015): Brown played in 11 games as a sophomore and started in one. She took four shots and scored one goal, scooped up four ground balls and won one draw control. Brown earned a start in the season-opener against No. 19 Denver and scored her lone goal of the season in a 13-5 win over Marquette on Feb. 14. She helped the Buffs to an 11-7 overall season record and remains an important part of CU’s offense.
FRESHMAN (2014): Brown played in all 19 of the Buffs’ games her freshman season, making 16 starts, including starting all 15 of the Buffs’ final games. Brown ranked in the team’s top six with 20 points off 15 goals and five assists. She took 31 shots, sending an impressive 26 on goal, and went 3-for-6 from the 8-meter arc. Additionally, Brown had 14 ground balls, 11 draw controls and three caused turnovers. Brown got her first assist against Regis, and continued to earn points in the next three games, scoring a goal and adding an assist against Temple and scoring against Fresno State and Massachusetts. Brown went on another scoring spree later in the season, earning points in eight of the Buffs’ final 10 games. She netted a season-high four goals against St. Mary’s, becoming one of just four Buffs to score four or more goals in a single game. She scooped up a season-high five ground balls against USC, and just two games later, matched her season-high point total with three goals and an assist.
HIGH SCHOOL: Brown was a four-year letter-winner in lacrosse at Notre Dame Academy. In her senior season, Brown helped lead the squad to the fiercely contended Division I State Championship title, finishing the season with a 24-2 record. As a junior, Brown scored 40 goals and led the team with 27 assists, while earning numerous honors including becoming a Patriot Ledger Lacrosse All-Scholastic, ESPN Boston All-State Lacrosse Team honorable mention, EMGLCA All-Star second-team and Lower New England Lacrosse Team 2 selection. She was also named to the Lower New England Lacrosse Team 4 her sophomore season. She competed with the Mass Elite Lacrosse club team from 2006-12. An outstanding alpine ski racer, Brown won four consecutive Ski East League Girls Championships. She was named to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic Alpine Ski Team all four years and earned their Skier of the Year title as a junior. She was an individual state champion for slalom in 2011 and competed in the Junior Olympics for alpine in 2009 and 2010. Brown also played four years as a defender and midfielder for Notre Dame Academy's soccer team, contributing eight assists as the 2012 captain. Her accomplishments on the ski slopes and both lacrosse and soccer fields helped her to the Notre Dame Academy Outstanding Athlete Award, given to the school’s top athlete over a four-year career.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Brown majored in international affairs.
PERSONAL: Amelia Brown is the daughter of Steve and Shelia Brown. Brown was born on January 10, 1995. Her father is the senior vice president of UBS Financial Services. Brown's grandfather, Wilbur Brown, played football, basketball and baseball at the Maine Maritime Academy, and her uncle, Tony McLaughlin, played basketball at Roger Williams College. She is a descendant of George Soule, who came to Plymouth, Mass. on the Mayflower. Brown has worked as a lacrosse camp counselor and volunteered for the Children's Well-Being Foundation. Brown hopes to join the Peace Corp after graduation. Her favorite athlete is Lindsey Vonn, and she likes the music of Dave Matthews. She's a Boston Bruins fan who enjoys skiing and snowboarding.
