Colleen Magarity enters her second season as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at the University of Colorado.

In the Buffaloes’ inaugural season, Magarity helped lead the squad to an 11-8 overall, 6-3 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record. The Buffs entered their first MPSF tournament as a 3-seed, advancing to the semifinals after a thrilling 9-8 double overtime win over San Diego State.

Magarity began her collegiate coaching career with the Buffs after spending a year in the insurance industry and coaching youth lacrosse in Chicago.

Magarity and head coach Ann Elliott were together for Magarity’s sophomore through senior seasons at Northwestern.  In Magarity’s four-year career at Northwestern, the Wildcats compiled an 85-5 record and won three NCAA Championships. The Wildcats were 21-1 her freshman season, completed a perfect 23-0 record her sophomore season, were 20-2 her junior season and 21-2 in her senior campaign.

Her senior season she was a team captain and the defensive leader for the NCAA Champions. She was a third-team IWLCA All-American and earned first-team All-West Region and first-team All-American Lacrosse Conference honors. She was named to the All-Tournament team for both the NCAA Championship and ALC Championship. Her junior season she was named second-team All-ALC and capped her career with a Northwestern Student Athlete award in 2011.

A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, she began her career at midfield for the Wildcats and shifted to be a defender, playing in 84 games and starting the final 45 of her career spanning her final two seasons. She lists the 2011 NCAA Championship as her top collegiate moment as the Wildcats regained the NCAA Championship defeating Maryland, which beat Northwestern in the 2010 title game.

She graduated from Germantown Academy as a two-time high school All-American and was the 2007 Tri-State Lacrosse Player of the Year, Times Hearald Player of the Year and Philadelphia Inquirer Player of the Year. She was ranked the No. 8 recruit nationally by Inside Lacrosse.

She was a member of the U.S. U-19 World Cup team and had played against Hannah Nielsen, a member of the Australian team, prior to the two being teammates at Northwestern and co-assistants at Colorado.

Magarity graduated from Northwestern in 2011 with a degree in human development and psychological services and a minor in business.
