2017 MPSF All-Academic Team

SENIOR (2017): The senior led the Buffs to their best defensive year to date. Only allowing 162 goals, Colorado rose to No. 6 in the nation for their scoring margin of 6.35. In the 20 games Rovzar played in, she had 19 groundballs, one draw control and 13 caused turnovers. Rovzar was seventh on the team for groundballs and fourth for caused turnovers. In the season opener against No. 9 Northwestern on Feb. 12, she picked up one groundball and had one caused turnover to help the Buffs to an overtime victory and first win against an opponent ranked in the top-10. She picked up a groundball in five straight games in the wins over UC Davis, Denver, Marquette, Penn State and Winthrop; including her season high two groundballs and two caused turnovers against Denver on March 3. Rovzar continued to fight to give her team possessions in the post-season. She got her first draw control of the season along with one groundball and a caused turnover in the MPSF Tournament semifinal game against Stanford on April 28. The senior had another groundball and caused turnover in the conference championship match against USC on April 30. Rovzar’s defensive efforts and leadership facilitated Colorado making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament; she had two groundballs and caused a turnover in the first round game against Massachusetts on May 12.
 
JUNIOR (2016): Rovzar started all 18 games as a defender, leading the Buffaloes to the second-best scoring defense in the MPSF and the seventh best in the nation at 7.00 goals allowed per game. She guarded the opposing team’s top player behind the net and had 19 ground balls, 9 caused turnovers, four draw controls and one assist. She had two ground balls in an 18-4 win at Fresno State on Feb. 21. Rovzar had three ground balls and a caused turnover in a 15-14 overtime win against James Madison on March 3. She recorded her first career assist and had two ground balls in a 23-0 win over Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on April 15. She caused a turnover and picked up two ground balls in the MPSF Tournament semifinals against No. 9/8 Stanford. During the year, she also caused turnovers against Marquette, Michigan, No. 12/10 Stanford, No. 7/6 Southern California, San Diego State, California and Oregon.
 
SOPHOMORE (2015): Rovzar played and started in 17 of the team's 18 games in 2015. She scooped up an impressive 19 ground balls, took four draw controls, and caused seven turnovers. She was a vital aspect to the Buff’s defense and helped them to an 11-7 overall record for the 2015 season. She helped the Buffs finish third in the MPSF in goals-against average (9.16) and fifth in caused turnovers per game (7.56). She had two ground balls against No. 7 Northwestern, UC Davis, No. 13 Stanford and Fresno State. In two games at the MPSF Tournament, she had nine total ground balls with four in a first-round win over San Diego State and a season-high five against No. 15 Stanford. She also had two caused turnovers in each conference tournament game.
 
FRESHMAN (2014): The 2014 co-captain was one of seven players to start all 19 of the Buffs’ games in the inaugural season. Rovzar acted as a defense leader, concluding her freshman season with 17 ground balls, seven draw controls, six caused turnovers and one shot. She had three games with at least one ground ball and one caused turnover. She had a season-high three ground balls in three separate games, including in her collegiate debut at Stetson. In that game, Rovzar also caused a season-high two turnovers.  

HIGH SCHOOL: Rovzar began playing varsity lacrosse at Corona Del Mar her freshman season. By her sophomore year, she was named the team's most improved player and was a first-team All-Pacific Coast League selection. Her junior season, Rovzar was named a Daily Pilot Athlete of the Week and the All-League MVP. She was also named first-team all-county and was one of six players selected for the Orange County Girls Lacrosse Dream Team. As a senior, Rovzar was once again a first-team all-league selection and Daily Pilot Athlete of the Week. She was also named her team’s MVP and an OC Register Player to Watch. She was one of the top 15 athletes at Corona Del Mar to receive the Chamber of Commerce Athlete Award and also received the Gratsinger scholarship, given to the player who best embodies leadership, hard work and community service within the lacrosse community. As a club player, she worked her way up from OC Elite to X Team Black. The club won the Sandstorm Tournament in 2012. Rovzar was also selected for the WDNT Orange County/Los Angeles Region Team in 2011 and 2012. 

IN THE CLASSROOM: Rovzar majored in psychology.

PERSONAL: Molly Elizabeth Rovzar was born on December 15, 1994, to Bob and Betsy Rovzar. When not playing lacrosse, she likes to run and go to the beach. She enjoys The Hunger Games series of books. She is a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. She participated in the YMCA Youth and Government program in 2010 and 2011. She was a two-time California Scholarship Federation selection. Rovzar traveled to Taru, Kenya with Kenya Keys to help educate students. After graduation, she hopes to become a family counselor.
