Bio
- 1999 Soccer Buzz Online Freshman All-Central Region
Junior (2001): Bugay’s starting streak (dating back to the 2000 season) came to an end at 39 as she didn’t get the starting nod in the season opener but would go on to start 13 of the next 14 games on the pitch. She was perfect from the field, converting on her only shot of the season in the season opener vs. Wisconsin her first career goal, first and last of the season. She suffered a first degree shoulder sprain in the opening minutes of the match at Oklahoma State on Oct. 5, an injury she would play through the remainder of the season. Her lone assist of the season was against Texas.
Sophomore (2000): Bugay continued to be a key component to the Buffalo defense, starting every game of her sophomore campaign (19), bringing her career total to 39. A disciplined and tenacious defender, Bugay didn’t record many offensive statistics, just a pair of shots on the season, but provided good distribution out of the back to reset the CU offense.
Freshman (1999): Bugay started all 20 games and came out only four times all season. She stepped up the Colorado defense at her position as sweeper, as well as assuming a marking-back role when CU used a flat back-four formation. She was named to the Nike Carolina Classic all-tournament team vs. North Carolina and Duke. She registered her first collegiate shot on against Iowa State. Bugay was honored by Soccer Buzz Online Magazine with a spot on their All-Freshman Central Region squad following the season. She spent the summer with the Colorado Rush U-19 side, which won the USYSA National Championship.
High School: Bugay was a member of Green Mountain’s 1997 and 1999 5A State Championship squads, captaining the 1999 edition. She also helped lead her team to the state semifinals in 1996 and the quarterfinals in 1998. Bugay was named to the 5A first team all-state squad by both the Denver Post and the Denver Rocky Mountain News as a senior, was an Honorable Mention all-state honoree as a junior for the Rams. On the club side, Bugay also experienced considerable success as her U-17 Colorado Rush team claimed the USYSA National Championship in 1998, the first-ever for a girls team from the state of Colorado. That same Rush team captured state championships from 1995-98, and won the USYSA Region IV championship in 1998. Bugay was a member of the Colorado Olympic Development Program’s State Select team from 1994-98, and the Regional squad from 1995-98.
In The Classroom: At Colorado, Bugay is a communications major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
Personal: The Seoul, Korea native was born on Nov. 25, 1980. She is the daughter of Steve and Stella Bugay, and the sister of Katie, Kaci and Anneliese and brothers Erik and Sean. She is the first Buffalo player from a continent other than North America.
