Sophomore (2000): Honig earned a point early in the season against Colorado College when she launched one of her trademark long throw-ins to a waiting Jessi Burgener who controlled the ball and sent it home for the gamewinner. She was plagued by various injuries during the latter portion of the season, was entrenched as the starter for the middle of the season following the injury to Suzy Kiefer at outside midlfield. She made her return to the starting lineup against Nebraska, only to roll her ankle and sprain it early in the second half.

Freshman (1999): Honig registered one of three Colorado shots on goal when she made her collegiate debut against North Carolina on Sept. 10. She saw action in six games, providing depth in the Buffalo defense and earning more minutes as the season progressed and she improved. The spring season was a productive one for Honig, as she progressed a great deal, eventually working her way into the starting lineup for the spring finale against Santa Clara at Mile High Stadium.

High School: Honig earned first team 5A all-state, first team all-region, and first team all-district honors at Austin’s Westlake High School her senior year under coach Bill Anderson. She was voted the team’s captain in 1999, as well as being voted defensive most valuable player both her junior and senior years, in addition to being named to the all-academic district team both years as well. Honig lists a 1-1 tie against No. 1 Kingwood High School as a top game at Westlake. On the club side, she played for Austin Thunder under coach Ray Iddenden, and participated on the South Texas Olympic Development’s state team and attended Region II camp as a sophomore. While still living in Colorado, she played for Littleton United and won a state championship in 1996, as well as the USA Cup and Pikes Peak tournament. She also played for Colorado’s ODP team and regional team (Region IV) as a freshman. Honig lettered in track her sophomore and senior years at Westlake, garnering third place in the 100-yard dash in the Central Texas Regional her senior year. Honig was also recruited by Baylor, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Pepperdine.

Personal: Ashley Patricia Honig was born July 11, 1981 in Englewood, Colo., the daughter of Tom and Dianne Honig. Her father played football at Wyoming and her grandfather was an all-American at Nebraska in football. Her hobbies include skiing (both water and snow), just about every outdoor activity imaginable, and community service. She also used to ice skate and do ballet. Her family recently moved back to the Denver area from Austin.

In The Classroom: Honig is majoring in MCD biology at Colorado, with hopes of attending dental school after CU. Honig eclipsed the 3.00 in-season mark and will carry a 2.9 cumulative gpa into her junior campaign. As a prep student, she was a member of the National Honor Society, a four-time member of the honor roll, an officer in the Westlake French Club in 1998 and 1999, as well as managing to graduate in the top 11 percent of her class.
