Heidi Kocher
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Nothing will build and maintain a relationship quite as quickly as spirited competition, and head coach Austin Daniels has learned as much as he wants to about Heidi Kocher the opponent. Now, he's looking forward to some time spent with Heidi Kocher the ally.
"Heidi has proven herself as a player," Daniels said. "It will be nice to have her on my side when she translates that ability into coaching."
Kocher was a four-year starter for the perennial powerhouse University of Massachusetts squad, which would annually provide Daniels' Hartford team with some of its stiffest competition. And although having Daniels on the same sideline instead of staring back from across the field will be a change for Kocher, it's a change she eagerly awaits.
"I've got high expectations for this program," Kocher said. "I'm ready to take on some new challenges and I'm ready to work with coach Daniels to make Colorado women's soccer something special."
A defender for Massachusetts, Kocher was a key ingredient in the Minutemen's 1993 run to the national title. After a 1994 senior season which saw her earn first-team All-American and second-team Academic All-America honors, Kocher graduated in May of '95 with a Bachelor's degree in finance and operations management. She then departed for Finland, where she played with the Tikkurilian Palloseura until October.
Kocher was Massachusetts' top defender, often drawing the assignment of marking the opponent's best player. Those defensive skills, combined with imÂpressive quickness and consistency (Kocher started each of the Minutemen's 84 games during her tenure) make Kocher a player of near "living-legend" status in the UMass archives.
Kocher's coaching resume includes stints with Iona College and duties with youth camps for both the Massachusetts ' Youth Soccer Association and the UniÂversity of Massachusetts.
Kocher is a graduate of Lakeland High School (New York), where she earned letters in soccer, field hockey and basketball. She was born Nov. 14, 1973, in North Tarrytown, N.Y.
