Stephen Hoogerwerf is in his first year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Buffaloes, specifically focusing on the goalkeepers. Aside from working with CU, Hoogerwerf also serves as the Director of Goalkeepers for the Colorado Storm Soccer Association.
Hoogerwerf came to the state of Colorado from New York, where he served as the goalkeeper coach for the Long Island University men's soccer team while finishing his Bachelor's degree in Sports Science from 2003-07. In addition to working with the goalkeepers, Hoogerwerf also played a large role in recruiting, as well as developing the strength and conditioning programs for both the men's soccer team and women's tennis team. Under his tenure as an assistant coach, Hoogerwerf's LIU team claimed the NEC Championship in 2004 and his goalkeepers ranked fifth in the nation for goals against average.
Hoogerwerf has also had coaching experience at the club level with the Manhattan Kickers, Metropolitan Oval, Manhattan SC/FC Westchester and New Orleans Soccer Academy and was also involved in the Olympic Development Program from 1998-2008, with both the New York and Louisiana programs.
As a player, Hoogerwerf attended William Carey College from 1995-97 before leaving to pursue his professional career. At WCC, Hoogerwerf was an NAIA second team All-American and the GCA Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Hoogerwerf played in the Premier Development League with the Cocoa Expos and Pikes Peak Stampede before kicking off his professional career with the New Orleans Storm of the A-League from 1998-2000.
Born and raised in New Orleans, La., Hoogerwerf's hobbies include sports and foreign travel.
