Sue-Moy Chin
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Colorado head soccer coach Bill Hempen added Sue-Moy Chin, his first assistant at Duke, to the Colorado coaching staff.
Â
Chin enters her second season as the top assistant coach at Colorado in 2002.
She spent the 2000 season in the same capacity with Hempen at Duke. In her single season in Durham, N.C. she helped guide Duke to a 14-8-1 overall record (4-3-0 ACC) before bowing out of the program's eighth NCAA Tournament in nine seasons in the second round.
Â
She joined the Blue Devils' staff after a three-year stint at perennial national power Notre Dame. While at Notre Dame, Chin helped guide the Fighting Irish to three 20-win seasons, three Big East Conference crowns and three NCAA Tournament appearances including the 1999 NCAA title game where Notre Dame was the national runner-up to 16-time national champion North Carolina in a 2-0 decision.
Â
Before arriving at Notre Dame, Chin served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Florida International for the 1995 and 1996 seasons where the Golden Panthers went 7-11-1 and 10-7-2, respectively.
Â
A 1996 graduate of Florida International with a degree in physical education, she was a mainstay in goal for the Golden Panthers from 1991-94, starting all 67 games of her career. She earned Soccer News Honorable Mention All-America honors in '93 following the program's only Trans American Athletic Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, where FIU upended her future employer, Duke, 3-2 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 deadlock during regulation. FIU would lose to eventual national champion North Carolina, 3-0, in the second round of that year's national tournament, but not before Chin would stop a career-best 11 shots on goal.
Â
A three-year captain of the squad, she still holds netminder school records in single season (7) and career (20) shutouts. Her career low goals-against-average (1.11) also still stands while she is fourth all-time in career saves (220). FIU compiled an impressive 41-21-6 during Chin's career while Chin earned All-South recognition (1992, '93), All-Florida honors (1991-93), second-team all-TAAC (1993, '94) and was named to the TAAC All Tournament team her senior season.
Â
An Aurora, Ontario, native, Chin was a member of the Canadian National Team and was a five-year standout at Aurora High School while playing a decade of club soccer. Â She also lettered in volleyball, basketball field hockey and track and field.
