HEMPEN ON NEWLIN: Kelci is coming off back-to-back youth national championships with her club team and we hope that those experiences allow her to step in and be a factor in the central defense with hopes of wanting that same type of success at a Buff.
SOPHOMORE (2009): Newlin saw action in all but one of CU’s games and started in six of them at defender. Newlin made her first career start in CU’s home opener against Oklahoma State. She logged a career high 90 minutes against Oregon.
FRESHMAN (2008): Newlin saw action in just four of CU's games as a freshman defender, with her first collegiate action coming against San Francisco. She recorded her first career point against Oklahoma when she assisted teammate Mel Hick's second half goal.
HIGH SCHOOL: A two-year team captain, Newlin lettered all four years at Ponderosa High School under head coach Jim Engles. Newlin was a Second Team All-League selection as a junior and was an honorable mention pick as a sophomore. As a member of the Colorado Rush club team with fellow Buff Kate Russell, she helped lead her team to a 9-0-1 record in 2007, the same year they were crowned State Champions. Newlin and the Rush were Regional and National Champions in 2008 after taking first in the Disney Showcase. She was a member of the Colorado ODP team from 2005-07 and made it to Regional camp in 2006 and 2007.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Newlin is an open-option major at Colorado.
PERSONAL: Kelci Brianne Newlin was born on July 21, 1990 and is the daughter of Russ and Tina Newlin. She has one sister, Brenna (16), who is a junior in high school and plays tennis. Newlin chose Colorado because she feels that the coaching and the team are strong and united and she is confident that they can push her toward success.
