FRESHMAN (2004): McFarlane played in six games as a backup defender, totaling 64 minutes. She saw a season-high 27 minutes in a 7-0 win over Texas Tech on Oct. 17.
HIGH SCHOOL: McFarlane and the Bainbridge High School Spartans advanced to the state tournament her sophomore through senior seasons and McFarlane was a second-team All-Metro League performer during the 2001 and '02 seasons and first-team pick in '03. She was also voted Most Inspirational and Coaches' MVP following her junior campaign. Team captain her junior and senior year, she was a first-team All-Metro defender and defensive MVP and was featured in a local paper after being named student-athlete of the month as a senior. She played club for the nationally ranked FC Royals and coach Dan Henry out of Puyallup, Wash. Recruited by San Diego State, Denver and UC-Riverside before committing to Colorado.
IN THE CLASSROOM: An eight-semester honor roll student at Bainbridge, McFarlane will be an open option major at CU, but is interested in studying photo journalism and psychology.
PERSONAL: Born April 28, 1986 in Denver, Kyle Christina McFarlane is the daughter of Scott and Janet McFarlane of Bainbridge Island. She has two older sisters, Nikki (25) and Courtney (19), a junior at Seattle Central. She is officially a second generation Buff, as her mom, Janet, attended CU in the 1970s. She's been writing since she was 8 years old, paints abstracts and coaches 8 year-olds.
