Freshman (1998): McKay made 10 appearances and attempted four shots as a freshman midfielder.Â
High School: A three-year letterwinner for head coach Jim Burnside and New Trier, she scored an impressive 51 goals in her three-year prep career, a total which includes 25 goals her freshman season when she played right wing. She moved to her center midfield position as a sophomore at New Trier when the graduation of one of the team's key players following her freshman year necessitated the position shift. New Trier tallied an incredible 47-3-2 record in McKay's three seasons, making it to the state quarterfinals her sophomore season and placing third in the state her junior year. She didn't play for New Trier her senior year because of an eligibility snafu, but worked on her game by practicing with the MLS Chicago Fire's men's minor league team during the year. She has played on the Olympic Development Program's (ODP) state select team for the past seven years, and qualified for the ODP regional pool in 1996. She played with the Buffalo Grove Lightning (later changed to the Chicago Cobras) club team for two years.
Personal: Born March 24, 1980, in Evanston, Ill., McKay will be the first Buff ever from the state of Illinois. She is undecided on her major at Colorado but has an interest in photography and possibly photojournalism. She also played basketball (point guard) as a freshman and sophomore, but hung up her sneakers to concentrate on soccer. Her hobbies include photography and snowboarding. She was also recruited by Northwestern, Dartmouth, Arizona State, Vermont, New Hampshire, Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana.
