Freshman (2002): Talyai made eight appearances as a center back for CU and scored one goal on her only shot attempt of the season. She scored the game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory over Eastern Illinois on Sept. 20.
High School: Talyai lettered four years for coach John Brolosky at Green Mountain. She was voted captain and Most Inspirational her freshman year. Her 2000 Rams team were the JeffCo League Champions and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 5A state tournament. A year later they defeated eventual state champion Cherry Creek in the Arapahoe Tournament to take the tournament championship. In 2002 the Rams repeated their JeffCo League Championship title with an unblemished 10-0-0 league record and were 14-2-2 overall before advancing to the quarterfinals of the state championship. As a senior the varsity captain connected on seven goals and a single assist. She also played varsity volleyball her freshman year. On the club level she played for Amanda Schmidtz and the Colorado Rush, the 2000 Raleigh (N.C.) Tournament finalists. But they never got to play the championship game of the tournament because of snow, so both teams agreed to determine the result via shootout, with Rush coming out on the short end. She also considered attending New Mexico, Lehigh, Georgia State and Ball State prior to committing to Colorado.
In The Classroom: Talyai will enter classes as an open option major, but is interested in biology after taking honors classes at Green Mountain. After graduation she is interested in a psychology or sports medicine career.
Personal: Neda Talyai was born Oct. 12, 1983 in Denver. She is the daughter of Leon (a former collegiate soccer player at Pacific during the 1970s) and Terri Talyai of Lakewood, Colo. She has two older sisters, Talia (a junior at Red Rocks Community College) and Suzanne Smith, and an older brother, Andrew Burgar. Her hobbies include snowboarding (Copper is her favorite mountain) and Rock Climbing (especially on indoor climbing walls). She is also fluent in sign language.
