Bio
Senior (2000): Nowfel made six starts and 13 appearances as a senior on the defensive half of the field. She finished with three assists and two shot attempts. She assisted on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win at Air Force on Sept. 13. Nowfel had an assist in her first start of the year at Texas on Sept. 22, and another assist in CU’s 1-0 win over Iowa State on Oct. 22.
Junior (1999): Nowfel started all 20 games for the Buffs and finished with two goals and six shot attempts. She scored in CU’s 2-0 win over Air Force on Sept. 22. Her second goal came in a 3-1 win over Oklahoma State on Oct. 3.
Sophomore (1998): Was an integral component in Colorado's defense, starting all 20 games for the Buffaloes. The 20 nods moved her to third on the Colorado career starts chart with 38 along with classmate Melissa Cartmell. The 38 starts are also consecutive, which ties her with Cartmell for first on the all-time chart. Nowfel recorded her first-career goal against George Washington on Sept. 6 in a 4-1 win, and notched an assist in a 5-2 loss at BYU on Sept. 11.
Freshman (1997): Nowfel registered six shots and an assist as a true freshman, starting each of the Buffaloes' 18 games on the year. She tallied a season-best three shots on Oct. 19 against Texas Tech.
High School: A four-year letterwinner and starter for head coach Greg Sumlin and Heritage, Nowfel earned all-state mention her sophomore through senior seasons. She was also an all-Continental League pick following each of her four years as a prep, and was a two-time first-team Arapahoe Warrior Invitational team selection (as a sophomore and junior). In her high school career, Nowfel tallied 44 goals (14 as a senior, 16 as a junior, 10 as a sophomore and four as a freshman), and registered 51 assists (7,16, 16 and 12, respectively). She says the biggest moment of her prep career was making the state finals in 1996, where she and her Heritage teammates lost a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to Chatfield as the game's only goal was scored with about seven minutes left on an indirect kick. Nowfel also played within Colorado's Olympic Development Program, making the state team from 1994-96 and the regional pool in 1995. As a member of the Lakewood Fury club team, she participated on teams that won their respective state cup competitions from 1994 to 1996, and was named the Most Valuable Player of the state cup competition in 1996.
Personal: Her father, Brian Nowfel, played tennis collegiately for Ball State University, graduating in 1970. Her younger sister Michelle also plays Division I soccer, starting this fall at the University of New Mexico. She was also recruited by Ohio State, Kansas and Baylor. Nowfel plans on majoring in broadcast journalism at Colorado, and her hobbies include skiing, snowboarding, backpacking and fishing.
