Junior (2000): The Buffs’ 1999 MVP and leading scorer had a short-lived Y2K campaign, tearing her ACL in the second half of the season opener at Denver (Aug. 25). Following surgery she redshirted the remainder of the season.
Sophomore (1999): Kiefer finally came into her own in her third season at Colorado. After redshirting her first season with a torn ACL, and a season spent acclimating herself to the collegiate game from her starting spot, the sophomore produced the numbers she was expected to put up when she signed with CU in 1997. Kiefer tallied eight goals to earn CU’s goal scoring title, the most ever in a season by a Buffalo. Her goals included two game-winners against Alabama (Sept. 17, 3-1) and Texas Tech (Oct. 22, 1-0). She ended the regular season with a bang scoring two goals in as many games, her last goal coming against Baylor (Oct. 24, 1-1). Kiefer added two assists on the year to bring her point total to 18, tied with Melissa Cartmell to lead the Buffs. Kiefer was the only Buff to notch a multi-goal game with her two goals against Alabama. She saw action in all 20 games last season, starting 19 of them. She was named CU’s Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 24 for her performances against Texas Tech and Baylor. She registered seven shots against Wyoming, the second-highest single game total this season. She was named second-team academic all-Big 12 on Nov. 1, and was named the MVP of the team in a vote of her teammates.
Redshirt Freshman (1998):Â She was a redshirt freshman in her second year at Colorado, and Kiefer suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during the summer before her arrival at CU in 1997. Started all 20 games in 1998, primarily at the forward position but she was also used at the center midfield spot. Was the third leading scorer with two goals and three assists for seven points on 47 shots, the second highest total for the Buffs. Both of Kiefer's goals came against non-conference opponents, with her first collegiate goal coming against George Washington in a 4-1 CU win and the second against UMass in a 4-0 win.
Freshman (1997): She missed the season with a torn ACL.
High School: A four-year letterwinner for coach Kirk Bast and Arapahoe High School, she earned second-team all-Continental League accolades as a freshman and first-team all-league honors her sophomore through senior seasons. She was also tabbed all-state as a junior, when she was Arapahoe's offensive Most Valuable Player. She was again named the team's MVP following her senior season, was tabbed all-state (5A) by the Denver Post, and was chosen as a recipient of Arapahoe's "110 Percent" award. Kiefer was named the Most Valuable Player of the Arapahoe Warrior Invitational her sophomore year. During her prep career, Arapahoe won the state championship (her sophomore year), and qualified for the state quarterfinals (her junior year). She was also recruited by Kansas, Connecticut and Montana. Personal: Susan Agnes Kiefer, born August 3, 1978, and is the daughter of Tom and Martha Kiefer.
In The Classroom: Kiefer is majoring in sociology at CU where she carries a 3.118 grade point average. She spent the spring of 2000 studying abroad in Costa Rica.A standout academically as well as athletically, as she was an honor roll member at Arapahoe and was an honorable mention academic all-state selection as a senior.
