Freshman (2002): Piete made 13 appearances and one start as a freshman for the Buffs. She scored one goal and had two shot attempts on the season. She made her first career start in a 4-1 win against Eastern Illinois on Sept. 20. She scored her first career goal against No. 3 Texas A&M in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Nov. 8 in the 37th minute, putting a rebound off a crossed free kick.
High School: A varsity letterwinner for four years for head coach Duncan Nyangoro and the four-time PAC 9 Conference Champions. As a freshman Tualatin finished second in the state and as a junior advanced to the final four and was ranked 24th nationally by FOX Sports Net. A member of the Premier Club Soccer team that reached the Final Four her senior year, she played for the TTS united Soccer Club from 1993-98, finishing second in the state in '97. In '99 she was a member of the Lake Oswego Soccer Club and from 2000-02 played for FC Portland (with CU teammate Chloe Mutnick) with a Final Four finish in 2000, a U-17 State Championship in 2001 and another run for the state title in '02. She was a member of the Oregon Olympic Development Program from 1998-2001 and Region IV ODP camp those same years, named team captain in 2000. In 2001 she played on Oregon's U-23 state team and regional tournament. She also played basketball and ran track (800, 1,500 and 3,000-m and 4x400-m relay) at Tualatin.
In The Classroom: Piete was offered academic scholarships from both Oregon and Hawai'i and was asked to take an unofficial visit to Yale during her junior year which she declined. She graduated with a 3.5 gpa and in the top 25 percent of her class. She is enrolled in the Leeds School of Business, but is undecided on a major, and is also interested in environmental science.
Personal: Tess Renee Piete was born Jan. 23, 1984 in Portland, Ore. She is the daughter of Thomas and Andrea Piete of Tualatin. She has a twin brother, Justin, and an older sister, Alisha, who is a music major at University of the Redlands. Her hobbies are, but are not limited to, computers, biking, hiking, backpacking, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing and running. She is also an accomplished alto and tenor saxophone player and was a member of both the symphonic and jazz bands at Tualatin.
