Mahoney on Dorrell
“Lauren benefitted immensely from her redshirt season and we are excited to see what she can do on the court this year.  A dynamic attacker, she can play either pin but we see her competing for time on the right this season. Once she gets comfortable I think she can have a big impact on our success.”

As a Redshirt Freshman in 2017
Dorrell saw action in 15 matches and 24 sets for the Buffs as a redshirt freshman, and even recorded her first career start. Her best performance for the Buff’s came in a 3-0 win over Abilene Christian (9/3), where she tallied a career-high eight kills and hit .318. She also recorded two blocks and a dig for nine points in the match. In another 3-0 win for the Buffs, against Albany (9/16), Dorrell collected four kills, two digs, and two blocks for five points. She saw action in two of the three sets in the Buff’s loss to Nebraska (12/8) in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament where she recorded one dig.

Did not compete.

High School
Dorrell has only been playing volleyball since the start of high school and but excelled quickly in the sport. A remarkable athlete, she was selected to the 2015-16 AVCA/Under Armour Girls High School All-American Second Team. Dorrell led the Fighting Irish to a 40-10 record in 2015. She recorded 466 kills, 46 blocks, 314 digs and 18 aces as a senior and was named the MVP after guiding FRHS to the 2015 Division II AA State Championship. She was also a member of the all-region team and was named to Prepvolleyball.com’s Senior Aces list, which recognizes the top 100 players across the country. After her senior season was over, she was named the Gatorade Tennessee Player of the year.

In 2014 as a junior, Dorrell amassed 617 kills, 50 blocks, 277 digs and 30 aces as FRHS recorded a 49-10 record.  She earned all-region honors that season as well.

Her most club volleyball experience comes from the Houston Juniors Volleyball Club in Houston, Texas, one of the premiere clubs in the country. She played there for two years under coaches Courtney Alwell, Tara Cross Battle, Courtney Rhodes and Jeff Ham. For the 2016 season, she will compete for Houston Juniors 18 Elite.

One of the nation’s top recruits, Dorrell was heavily recruited by many schools, including Stanford, Virginia, Arizona State, North Carolina and Louisville. She picked CU because it was her first unofficial visit and she felt “at home.”

Personal
Dorrell was born on June 21, 1998 in Louisville, Colo. She is the daughter of Karl, a former football player (UCLA) and assistant coach (UCLA and CU), and Kim Dorrell of Brentwood, Tenn. She has one older sibling, Chandler, who is a wide receiver for Vanderbilt. She enjoys shopping, listening to music and making people laugh.

Academics
Dorrell is majoring in environmental design and is minoring in leadership studies.
