Saarel Clocks Second Fastest Indoor 3,000 Time

SEATTLE, Wash. – University of Colorado senior Ben Saarel clocked a 7:50.93 time in the 3,000 meters here Saturday at the Husky Classic. This time is not only the second fastest time in the NCAA but now second all-time for CU behind Goucher's indoor time from 1998.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
Ben Saarel finished fifth in the 3,000 meters with an impressive time PR of 7:50.93. This time is the fastest time in the MPSF conference as of February 10 and is the second fastest in the nation. Justyn Knight owns the top time in the country with a 7:45.86.
 
Saarel's time is now second all-time for CU coming in behind Adam Goucher's 7:46.03 time from 1998. Saarel's previous best time of 7:52.61 was seventh all-time. 
 
Rajon O'Quinn had a strong performance in the 400 meters as she finished fourth overall with a time of 55.47 just .06 off her PR time. On the men's side of the 400 meters, Duane McClurkin Jr. finished sixth crossing the finish line in 48.13 seconds. 
 
In the men's 60 meter hurdles Andrew Ghizzone missed out on the finals heat by .06 seconds. Ghizzone finished ninth with a time of 8.46.
 
Two Buffs finished in the top-10 of the women's 800 meters as Sage Hurta finished in eighth place and Elissa in 10th. Hurta crossed the finish line in 2:08.40 and Mann in 2:08.77. 
 
FIELD EVENTS
The Buffs had plenty of action in the field today including some stronger performances by Aaron Haigler and Michaela Wenning.
 
Aaron Haigler finished 19th in the men's shot put with a PR mark of 48-2.5/14.69. In the women's high jump Michaela Wenning and Rajon O'Quinn both finished tied for fifth with marks of 5-4.5/1.64.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Buffs competed in the 200 meters today at the Tyson Invitational. Freshman Jon Maas clocked a 21.46 time to tie for 10th. His time is currently the third fastest time in the MPSF conference and the fastest time by a Buff this season.
