Buffs Head Off To Pac-12+/Big Ten Challenge

BOULDER — The Colorado Buffalo track and field program is headed to Tempe, Ariz. to compete with seven other ranked teams from across the country in the Pac-12+/Big Ten Challenge being hosted by Arizona State at Sun Angel Stadium.

This is the fourth year the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge has been in existence, but first time the Buffaloes are competing in it.

Pac-12 programs joining the Buffs in attendance are both Arizona State squads, California's men's and women's team, along with honorary Pac-12 member for the weekend LSU (No. 26 men's, No. 9 women's), who was a late addition due to a last-minute scratch on the Pac-12 side.

The Big Ten will be represented by Indiana, the Nebraska Cornhuskers' ninth-ranked men's team and 16th-ranked women's squad, No. 24/18 Michigan and No. 16/NF Penn State.

Women's Team Ranked
Colorado's women's team was ranked No. 15 in the preseason USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Team Computer Rankings that came out on March 20. The Buffaloes are the third-highest ranked women's team in the field this weekend, trailing No. 9 LSU (the "+" category in the Challenge) and one spot behind the host Sun Devils.

The Pac-12 features a total of five women's programs who were in the preseason top 25 and are joined by No. 2 Oregon, No. 4 USC, No. 10 Stanford and the Sun Devils at No. 14.

Competition Schedule
Friday—Five events will run on the first of the two-day meet: the men's and women's hammer throw, men's and women's javelin and the men's 3000 meter steeplechase. Competition begins at 2 p.m. MT with the women's hammer throw and the last event of the evening is at 8 p.m. with the men's steeplechase (CU does not have anyone entered in that race).

Saturday—A total of 33 events are on the slate for day two. The first field event (the women's discus) is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. MT, while the first track event (women's 100 meter hurdles) is scheduled to start at 6:20 p.m.
