A first-team All-American by The Sporting News as a senior in 1975, when the United Press International named him second-team โฆ A first-team Academic All Big-Eight team member as a junior in โ74 โฆ Played in 1976 Hula Bowl โฆ Majored in Biology at CU โฆ Considered the top center in the nation by most NFL scouts as a senior (he was a two-year starter at the position) โฆ He was a first-team member on CUโs All-Century team (selected in 1989) ... A first-round draft pick by New England in the 1976 National Football League Draft; he was the 12th overall pick; it was the highest-ever a Colorado offensive lineman was selected in the draft at the time, and would remain for 21 years until Chris Naeole was selected 10th by New Orleans (though younger brother Stan was also drafted 12th) โฆ He played for the Patriots in 154 career NFL games over a 12-year career from 1976 through 1987 (88 starts, 78 at center, six at tackle and four at guard), and scored a touchdown on a 6-yard reception against the New York Jets as an eligible receiver as a rookie in 1976 (teammates thus nicknamed him, โDeep Threatโ) โฆ Also appeared in an additional eight playoff games โฆ He was known as โMr. Versatilityโ with the Patriots, as he played every position along the offensive line (center, guard, tackle and tight end) and started at center in one Super Bowl (XX) โฆ In a win at Chicago in 1979, he played left tackle, tight end, wing back and long snapper โฆ He was the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award for 1985 and the Miller NFL Lineman of the Year in 1986 โฆ Named to the Patriotsโ All-Decade Team for the 1980s, and Patriots Football Weekly named him a member of the Patriots Team of the Century โฆ He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 โฆ He majored in Environmental Biology with a minor in History at CU โฆ Has been employed or involved in several businesses since his playing days, including working in research and development for NIKE and in technology with Wyatt Software (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Frontline Technologies (Boston) as he has excelled as an entrepreneur โฆ Was a pre- and postgame analyst on New Englandโs radio network for 20 seasons (1996-2015) โฆ Now in his 21st year as the president of the Patriotsโ Alumni, and is heavily involved in motivational speaking and productivity programs for people of all ages.
