COLORADO WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO BERKELEY

September 01, 1996 | Soccer

PLEASANTON, Calif. -The University of Colorado women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of California here Sunday night in only the second game ever for the first-year Buffalo squad.

The loss overshadows a remarkable performance by Colorado keeper Nina Bjornstad, who recorded 19 saves on 21 shots on goal. Overall, Bjornstad kept 38 of 40 California shots (19 of which were not on goal) out of the scoring column.

"Cal Berkeley is a very good team," head coach Austin Daniels said. "We did a good job staying in the game. We'd like to have left with a win, but this is a valuable experience for us and something we can build from."

Twenty-four hours after Colorado battled to a 1-1 tie against Cal State Bakersfield in its first-ever contest, the Buffaloes drop to 0-1-1 on the season. The team will return to Boulder Monday afternoon and begin preparations for its first home tilt, a 1 :00 p.m. MDT game against Louisiana State. The game will be played at the Pleasant View Soccer Complex in Boulder.
