Colorado Men Breeze Past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 98-81

November 17, 2001 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER - Colorado freshman center David Harrison scored a team-high 14 points leading five Colorado players in double figures as the Buffaloes routed the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 98-81, Saturday evening in the home opener men's basketball game at the Coors Events Conference Center.

Harrison, who was coming off of mild concussion suffered in practice earlier in the week, was 6-for-8 from the field with four rebounds. CU dominated the game on the boards by a 59-31 margin, as forwards Stephane Pelle and D.J. Harrison each contributed 10 rebounds and a combined 14 points.

"I saw some good things, and I saw some bad things tonight. Overall it was a good first win and I am pleased," commented CU head coach Ricardo Patton. "What we were really looking for in tonight's game was to find the right combination of guys to play on the floor. I don't think we found that yet, but we got some good looks. We just need to do that so that we can develop a solid style of play on offence and defense."

Senior Nick Mohr (11 points) shot 6-for-6 from free throw line, while Colorado's bench contributed an impressive 51 points. For the night, Colorado shot 47.9% from the field in the first meeting between the two schools.

Patton is a perfect 5-0 in home openers at CU. In addition, the Buffs scored the most points in a season opener since the 1991-1992 season with 98, surpassing the old mark of 93.

Other CU double-digit scorers were D.J Harrison with 10, and Michel Morandais and James Wright each added 11 points.

Arkansas' Charles Almond led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate Don Fleming added 13.

CU continues its three-game home stand by hosting Regis on Monday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
