November 12, 2002 | Women's Golf

Henderson, Nev. - Senior Lynn Ann Moretto shaved a team-best six strokes off her first round score and four positions on the leaderboard while the Buffs shot a second-round 316 and remain in sixth place after 36 holes Tuesday at the Las Vegas Founders Showdown at the Anthem Country Club.

Colorado's 36 hole score of 628 leads the Centennial State schools, as the Buffs are five strokes ahead of Denver (633) and have a nine-stroke lead over Colorado State (637).

New Mexico shot a tournament-best 5-under-par 283 for a two-day-total 589 to overtake host UNLV (594) by five strokes in the team standings while the Rebels' Sunny Oh shot a second-round 2-under-par 70 and combined with a first round 75 overtook the leaderboard with a 36-hole 145, a single stroke ahead of New Mexico's Kailin Down and Kristi Larsen and Pepperdine's Lindsey Wright (146) while day one leader, Margaret Gibby of BYU fell to 10th.

Colorado senior Erin Kerr and freshman Maria Persson Gulda continue to play round for round. Both carded a second round 78 and both continue to keep each other company in the individual standings in a three-way tie with UC-Irvine's Stella Lee in 18th.

Senior Jolene Fellhauer and soph Allison Rella both added a stroke to Monday's scores with Fellhauer turning in an 80 and Rella an 82 for scores of 159 and 163, respectively.

Moretto was Colorado's only improved score from Monday's round as she carded an 80, a six-stroke improvement from Monday's 86. While the rest of the team dropped in the standings, Moretto climbed from 65th to 61st with Eastern Washington's Shawn Farmer, Kelly Gardner, BYU's Jessica Gardner and Hawaii's Kristin Scholl.

The third, and final round, of the first-ever collegiate meet in the city, will tee off with a shotgun start Wednesday morning. It will be Colorado's final round, and 18 holes, of the fall. The Buffs begin the spring portion of their 2003 schedule Feb. 24 at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson.
