Postgame Quotes
November 28, 2002 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry
General "We had a good defensive effort tonight. We forced 24 turnovers and they shot below 30 percent from the field. That's going to be important to our team this year. To keep pressure on their shooters and force turnovers.
"We shot the ball better in the second half. Our defense needs to hold us until our offensive loosens up, and I think our offense loosened up the second half."
On Hartford's Second-Half Run
"We didn't panic. They made a run because they're a good team, they were an NCAA Tournament team last year. We missed some shots, they made some plays, but we didn't panic. Kate hit a three, and then we had another basket, I think it was Tera (Bjorklund), we hit two buckets back-to-back and then we shut them out again on defense."
On The Nearly Even Rebounding Margin
"There were a lot of long rebounds. Most of their shots were long, they didn't go inside much. Sometimes everyone just crashes inside and that isn't always the best tactic."
On The Second Half Improvement
"Our defense tends to wear on people, we tend to wear down teams mentally. Then with the turnovers we got some easy buckets in the second half."
Colorado Players
Freshman Forward Amber Metoyer
On Her Contribution "It was great. I just stepped up when my teammates needed me and when coach needed me. I just did my job and tried to play defense and run the offense, hit the open player and that's what our team was trying to do--hit the open player."
On Adjusting To The College Game
"I'm getting a little bit more of a feel for it. I'm a bit more comfortable. There's still a couple of things that I have to learn though and just get into a flow. I felt like tonight I was in a little bit of a flow and knew the offense a little bit better."
Junior Guard Kate Fagan
On Hartford's Run To Open The Second Half
"Well I think like coach Barry said, we just didn't panic. They made a run at us and I don't think we ever thought we were going to lose the game. We knew it was just a matter of time before we would work the ball in and get a good shot."
On Her Three-Pointer To End The Run
"I think (Linda) Lappe drew a baseline and threw it around. All I did was stand there. It's really a credit to my teammates."
On The Crowd
"I noticed that they were into it. Honestly, I think that the football team does help. I think that CU fans get pumped for whatever team wins and if we beat Nebraska they're going to come out here ready to cheer for us...I think when we run in transition and create turnovers that psyches the fans up too."
Hartford Head Coach Jennifer Rizzotti
General "Obviously I'm disappointed with the loss but I was pleased with the effort. I thought that we worked hard the majority of the time. We really hung in there. It's tough to play on the road, and really tough to come into Colorado and play a team that went to the Elite Eight."
On Colorado's Play
"They're tough to score on from every position...They were very persistent in adjusting to our D."
On The Second Half Start
"I think it was more that my players realized that they could be in this game. I think they were solid in the first half if you takeaway the 17 turnovers. Overall, I was happy with our defense."
On The Play Of Colorado's Bjorklund And Scott
"Those two players were the ones that we wanted to takeaway. I think we sagged on the outside player but they were obviously persistent. They were definitely the two players we keyed in on. I think that Kate Fagan really stepped up and made some shots too."
On Tomorrow's Match-Up With OSU
"I think they're similar to Colorado, their strength is on the inside. We'll have to see what we can do. We'll look at the tape and the scouting reports and make adjustments. I told the team they played a game tonight just like us and both teams are going to be tired. Tomorrow will be about heart and work ethic. I think we need to believe that we can be in the game."
G Angie Pezzetta
General "In the first half we just were not there. I think now we know what to do tomorrow and we think that we can stay with Ohio State."
"I think we played scared. We didn't adjust to how they were playing and how physical the game was."
