Postgame Quotes
November 29, 2002 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry
GENERAL-"I think the difference in the game was the three-point shots. That was what I was concerned about before the game. I think the three-point shot is where they beat OSU last night. Three-pointers were the difference in the game we were the same on field goals, and even on the boards. Villanova is a very good team.
ON THE PLAY OF VILLANOVA GUARD TRISH JUHLINE-"Our ball pressure was not very good in the first half. I think we had a tough time getting through some of their screens and they set her up well."
ON STAYING IN THE GAME-"They did a good job on defense. I think a key was when the score was 51-50 and we had the opportunity to score and instead we turned it over. I think we had come back from a nine-point deficit at that time and any time you have an opportunity to go ahead you need to...With the turnover, it was tough to come back again after that."
ON VILLANOVA'S BLOCKED SHOTS-"We switched around and when we switched to shorter guards they did a good job of getting their hands up and lots of times we seemed to be shooting into them. To me, that seemed like a significant stat."
ON HER OUTLOOK AFTER FOUR GAMES-"Despite the fact that we lost the game, I feel like we're improving. This team forced us to compete for 40 minutes. We're just not set in our rotation yet...Think we have the potential, the question is are we going to make the second jump."
ON TERA BJORKLUND-"Sometimes her job is tough in the triangle. She has the option to score every time and she has four cutters around her. What the difference between our offense and a lot of others is that the center is in a decision-making position and has the opportunity to have lots of assists...If you look at her line, 27-points, five assists and no turnovers for the amount of time she was in there (40 minutes), I thought she handled the ball pretty good."
ON VILLANOVA'S FIVE TURNOVERS-"They were well coached, and they passed the ball well. You don't run into many teams who will only turn the ball over five times. I think Harry Perratta does a good job of getting his team to move the ball around." "I thought that their players were pretty tired at the end of the first half. They were hard to press because they were so methodical. Even if you pressed them, they're not going to hurry. I think they're the most composed team that a team I've coached has played against, ever."
COLORADO PLAYER
C Tera Bjorklund
ON PLAYING COMPLETE GAME--"I felt pretty good tonight, considering we played last night. All I hope is that during the season is that I can keep playing like that. As long as I keep fresh legs and I work hard, I will be all right. That was something mentally I was prepared to do. Going into the season, I knew Coach Barry was going to expect a lot out of me."
ON HER PASSING GAME--"(Britt Hartshorn) has prepared me really well. I learned a lot from her going up against her everyday in practice last year. She was definitely a great passer. I am still trying to work to get up to her level, though. I always hear `Hey Britt was the hub of our offense,' and I still want to continue to get better with my passing skill."
ON THE LOSS TO VILLANOVA--"I think the team is pretty disappointed, especially since this was our tournament and since we anted to win it. Al we can do is come back Monday, practice hard, and get something out of the loss. That is how it goes sometimes...we just need to move on."
ON HER 27 POINTS--"Sometimes I am afraid that I am too selfish. I think I should make some passes and sometimes I do that instead of taking some shots. But I should have hit those couple of shots in the last stretch. It does not matter how many points I have, I still need to make those shots in the end."
ON VILLANOVA'S DEFENSE--"They did a nice job taking away our outside shooters tonight. They did a great job defensively. They were in each of our player's faces and they helped take away some of those big shots. When you have (man-to-man) defensive players like that, it definitely helps me out."
VILLANOVA HEAD COACH HARRY PERRETTA
ON DEFENSE- "We made a decision to play the post one on one and stop the perimeter players. We just tried to make more threes than them and play one on one in the post. We get more threes if we double down. We were lucky enough to get more threes than they did tonight. If you look at the stats we had seven and they only had one. We had around the same field goal percentage. That's why we tried to get more threes than the other team."
ON WIN - "We were ecstatic to come out of here with two wins. Ohio State was very good and Colorado was very good. It was a big win for the program and we played the best we could."
ON THE TOURNAMENT- "We came in and played two quality teams. After the Ohio State game last night, I wasn't sure if we would have enough energy. I'm just very proud of this team."
GENERAL - "I realized we won the game when the horn sounded. The game went down to the end and when the horn sounded I asked my assistant coach if we won."
Villanova Players
SENIOR FORWARD NICOLE DRUCKENMILLER
ON TERA BJORKLUND - She's a strong player. It seems like when she gets really low it's easy to score. I just tried to meet her early and not let her get low to score."
ON VILLANOVA'S OFFENSE - "Every player can shoot on this team. That is our main threat. I play the five so people think that I can't shoot from the outside and when they sagged off I shoot from the outside.
SENIOR GUARD TRISH JUHLINE
ON TERA BJORKLUND - "She's good. Every time she had the ball I thought she was going to score. She was even a good passer. We tried to shut her down, but she had 27."
ON TWO WINS - "We're just pumped we won. Being on the tournament team is just a bonus. We didn't even really think we could win the first game. We're just really happy."
