December 05, 2002 | Volleyball
BOULDER - University of Colorado setter Elizabeth Gower was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday. The senior from Naperville, Ill., boasts a 3.94 cumulative GPA in Chemical Engineering.
Gower owns the team's highest GPA, and she has registered two perfect 4.0 semesters in her collegiate career. Her GPA is the second-highest among all CU student athletes, and she was also honored with having Chemical Engineering's highest GPA for her class after both her sophomore and junior academic years. Coming out of high school, she was Chemical Engineering's No. 1 recruit.
Just as impressive on the court, she received first-team All-Region and All-Big 12 honors twice, holding the distinction as CU's youngest volleyball player to be named All-Region.
In terms of Academic All-American's, Gower joins former Buff Kelly Campbell as Academic All-Americans. Campbell was a first-team selection in 1999. Earlier this season, Gower joined classmate Kim Taskey as the duo became two of just four Academic All-District selections in program history.
Gower will work for ChevronTexaco as a production engineer in Bakersfield, Calif., upon graduation in May of 2003.
