Soccer's Munnelly Named CU's Athlete of the Week
October 08, 2003 | General, Soccer
BOULDER-- As a sophomore, midfielder Fran Munnelly has built an extensive list of accomplishments. Two weeks ago Munnelly was named the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Week and this week she is named CU's Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.
Last Friday, Munnelly registered the first two-goal game of her career against Texas Tech. Munnelly tied the score at 1-1 and 10 minutes later she proceeded to net her fourth game-winning goal of the season. The Buffs went on to score a school record of five goals to beat Tech 5-1 at Lubbock.
The Buffs recorded their first win over Baylor since 1997 and first ever win at Waco as they shut out the Bears 2-0 on Sunday. Munnelly assisted the second goal as Orly Ripmaster scored off of a corner kick from the midfielder.
Others nominated for this week's award were Jeremy Bloom (football), Billy Nelson (men's cross country), and Hannah Hoch (women's golf).
FOOTBALL: Jeremy Bloom, Sophomore, Fort Collins, Colo.
Lost in the 42-30 loss at Baylor was the fact that wide receiver Jeremy Bloom ran for 250 yards on kick returns. This marks the most yards in kick returns in a game by a Buff.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Billy Nelson, Sophomore, Bakersfield, Calif.
Colorado sophomore Billy Nelson won his first collegiate race when he claimed the individual title of the 18th annual Rocky Mountain Shootout in a course pr 25:05.
WOMEN'S GOLF: Hannah Hoch, Freshman, Turlock, Calif.
Hannah Hoch turned in her second straight top-10 finish at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate. It is just the fifth time in the program's 10 year history that a Buff has turned in back-to-back top-10 finishes, and the first by a CU freshman.
